Mayo U-14 E C’ship v Crossmolina match report

Gaeil Na Daibheidí 9-9  Crossmolina 5-3

This U-14 E Championship matched was played in perfect conditions in Ballindine on Monday evening with the home side coming out on top after an entertaining hour’s football. GND started well with three points, two from the brilliant Niall Duggan and the third from Malachy Devane in the first nine minutes. The visitors shot their first score after fifteen minutes, a goal, to level matters. Crossmolina then added points in the 18th and 19th minutes to go two ahead. The last minutes of the half saw the home-side taking over and a Malachy Devane point and four well-taken goals from Kaden Heneghan, Tadhg Kirrane, Cormac Devane and Niall Duggan saw them race into a 4-4 to 1-2 lead by the interval.

In the first ten minutes of the second half the visitors scored 2-1 but Niall Duggan replied with 1-2 and Kaden Heneghan notched a point to leave the home-side ten points clear. Further goals from Niall Duggan (2) and points from that man Niall Duggan and Cormac Devane extended GND’s lead with time running out. The Crossmolina lads never gave up trying and they shot goals in the 58th and 59th minutes but the home-side had the final say with two brilliant goals from Tadhg Kirrane and Jack Duggan to finish the game well and qualify for the semi-final.

Adam Sheridan had a solid game in goals with Joe Trench, Cathal Cummins and Nathan Turner giving nothing away soft in the full-back line. Tom Roche, Jack Brogan and Ruarí O Dea formed a strong half-back line. Sean Prendergast and Malachy Devane (0-2) were impressive at midfield. Up front, Niall Duggan was the star of the show scoring 4-5 but Jack Mullaney, Cormac Devane (1-1), Kaden Heneghan (1-1), Seamus Byrne, Tadhg Kirrane (2-0) and Jack Duggan (1-0) all contributed well along with subs Carraig Kilkenny and Leo Corcoran.
