Juniors v Breaffy – Match Report

Davitts run in the County Junior B Championship came to an end on Saturday evening in Kiltimagh when they were defeated, 2-11 to 0-11, by Breaffy after an entertaining game. Two early goals in either half was the difference between the two teams in this well fought Semi-Final.

Liam Noone opened the scoring with a fine point in the fifth minute but Breaffy replied quickly with a goal and two points. Breaffy were winning a lot of ball around the middle of the field but Davitts looked very sharp up front and points from Liam Noone (2), Darren Connolly (2), Shane Treacy, Seamus Roche and Evan Ronayne had Davitts trailing by 1-7 to 0-8 at halftime.

A second Breaffy goal ten minutes into the second half left Davitts reeling and good Breaffy defending and excellent work by their goalkeeper kept Davitts out. Second half points from Darren Connolly, Liam Noone and Gerald Griffin was all Davitts could manage but couldn’t get the goal they needed to get back into the game although Gerald Griffin and Evan Ronayne both came close.

While Davitts will be disappointed at losing, this young team have given their supporters plenty of good memories this year. All eighteen players that played gave their all in this game.

U-21’s v Kilcommin – Match Report

Davitts U-21 team made the long journey to Kilcommin a fruitful one on Wednesday evening, defeating the homeside by 4-16 to 3-9 in the County B Championship. This win sees Davitts safely through to the Quarter Finals.

While the final scoreline may suggest that this was a comfortable victory, it was only in the last fifteen minutes of the game that Davitts managed to put some distance between the teams on the scoreboard.

Amazingly, we had to wait until the ninth minute for the opening score of the game, a Kilcommin point. Davitts responded well with an equaliser from the hard working Paul O Gara before Gerald Griffin netted the first of a hat-trick of goals. Kilcommin showed real bottle and rifled home two goals and a point in the space of three minutes to lead by four points after sixteen minutes. The slick Davitts attack led by the superb Andrew Peters hit some terrific scores in the second quarter of the game. Points from Paul O Gara, Andrew Peters, Gerald Griffin, Evan Ronayne (2), Conor Keane (2) and a second Gerald Griffin goal put the visitors ahead by 2-8 to 2-3 at the break.

Kilcommin began the second half well, an early goal and point narrowing the gap to a single point. The game was really in the melting pot now as both teams traded points but two goals from Andrew Peters and Gerald Griffin finally ended the Kilcommin challenge. Davitts second half point scorers were the deadly accurate Conor Keane (4), Evan Ronayne (2), Andrew Peters and Padraig Mangan.

Davitts defence had their hands full coping with Kilcommin’s forwards throughout the game. Micheal Mangan did well in goals, while Patrick Keadin, Cathal Higgins and Sean Waldron played solidly. Paul O Gara, Andrew Peters and Evan Ronayne, who shot four quality points, formed a fantastic half forward line while Conor Keane and Gerald Griffin were lethal inside them.

U-16’s v Claremorris – Match Report

Claremorris defeated Davitts by 2-17 to 2-8 in the South Mayo U-16 A Final in Hollymount on Tuesday evening. A storming first half display laid the foundations for this Claremorris victory as they led by 1-10 to 0-2 at the interval. Davitts will regret the spurning of a few gilt edged goal chances in that half but Claremorris were playing impressively.

The Davitts boys dug deep after the break and really took the game to their opponents. Ryan McLoughlin, Davitts best player on the night, scored two fine goals as the whole team battled bravely. They refused to throw in the towel and managed to outscore Claremorris in that second half.

Shane Cummins had a fine game in goals and Jordan Flanagan, Ciaran Fahy, Cian Naughton, David Devane, Niall Kearns, James Ruane and Caelainn Mullee all played well.
