U-14’s v Ballinrobe – Match Report

Davitts and Ballinrobe met in Claremorris on Tuesday evening in an U-14 League play-off and Davitts reversed the earlier league result when winning by 5-12 to 4-7 after a cracking match. The first half was very tight and nothing separated the sides at the break and they went in level, 2-3 each. Davitts goals were converted emphatically by Ryan McLoughlin, while Jack Ronayne accounted for the three points.

Again in the second half the two teams were evenly matched and it was only in the last five minutes that Davitts put some daylight between themselves and the gallant Ballinrobe lads. Indeed were it not for a few super saves by goalkeeper James Corless, the result might have gone the other way. Another McLoughlin goal, one from Thomas Corless, two super points from Caelainn Mullee, a Liam Macken point and a magnificent 1-5 from Ronayne accounted for Davitts second half scores.

As well as all of those already mentioned Davitts had other fine displays from Niall Kearns, Jordan Flanagan, Aidan Macken, Ciaran Fahy, Dimitri Trench, Shane Cummins, Cian Treacy and Cian Naughton.

Davitts team: James Corless, Niall Kearns, Aidan Macken, Ciaran Fahy, Dimitri Trench, Caelainn Mullee (0-2), Thomas Corless (1-0), Liam Macken (0-1), Ryan McLoughlin (3-1), Shane Cummins, Jack Ronayne (1-8), Cian Treacy. Sub used: Cian Naughton.

Seniors v Castlebar – Championship Round 1 – Match Report

Davitts 0-5 Castlebar Mitchels 1-10.

A greater scoring threat up front ensured that Castlebar came away from Ballindine victorious in this Senior Championship tie in front of a large attendance. The exchanges were tough in this dour game and Pat Holmes men will be very relieved to leave with the points. Only three points separated the sides with ten minutes remaining but Castlebar showed their class to finish the game with five unanswered scores.

Davitts opened the scoring with a first minute Josh Ronayne point. Aidan Walsh replied for Castlebar in the 4 th and 7th minutes before a monster free from Ronan McNamara levelled the game after ten minutes. The game’s crucial score came in the 12th minute when Donal Newcombe got on the end of a fine Mitchels move and finished emphatically past a helpless Adrian McNamara in the Davitts goal. They led by 1-5 to 0-3 at the break after further points from Neil Douglas, Richie Feeney, playing at full forward, and Kevin Filan, with McNamara replying for the homeside.

Davitts came out fired up in the second half and were dominating the midfield exchanges through the efforts of Ronan McNamara and Paul Carey. A trademark long range McNamara free and a Keith Prendergast point, after a superb move, narrowed the gap to three points after ten minutes but they just couldn’t translate their superiority onto the scoreboard. Castlebar, to their credit, weathered the storm and rifled late scores from man of the match Richie Feeney (3), Eamon Tiernan and Aidan Walsh to come away with a deserved victory.

Best for Castlebar along with Feeney were Tom Cunniffe, Eoghan O Reilly, Donal Newcombe, Ronan Burke, Aidan Walsh, Tom King and the ageless Kevin Filan.

Davitts had top performances from Adrian McNamara, Donal Ronayne, still a minor, James Cummins, Alan Roche, who delighted the crowd with some spectacular legitimate hits, Colm Boyle, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey and Josh Ronayne.

Minors v Moy Davitts – Match Report

A superb second half performance in terrible conditions earned Davitts the league points against Moy Davitts in Ballindine on Wednesday evening. Juniors v Achill – Match Report

Davitts 2-7 Achill 1-8.

Davitts junior team made it three wins from four games in Division 1D of the Senior League with an impressive victory over a previously unbeaten Achill side in Ballindine on Saturday evening. This young side shrugged off the disappointment of last week’s defeat to Ballintubber and showed tremendous character to earn two more valuable league points.

Achill led by 0-6 to 0-4 at halftime, Davitts scores coming from Darren Connolly (3) and David McDonagh. Two excellent goals by David McDonagh, who was proving to be more than a handful at full forward, set up the homeside for this victory. Achill fought back and levelled the game with thirteen minutes remaining and when Davitts centre half back James Cummins was sent off it looked like it might be Achill’s day. The hard working Davitts boys tagged on the final two points of a pulsating game through Liam Noone and McDonagh again, after excellent work by Andrew Peters.

This was another game where it was difficult to pick out individuals as everyone did their bit to grind out the win. Having said that, the performances of Brian Clarke, Donie Ronayne, Cathal Higgins, Tommy Mitchell, Andrew Peters, Seamus Roche and David McDonagh were particularly noteworthy.

Davitts: David Mitchell, Brian Clarke, Donie Ronayne, Cathal Higgins, Mark Ronayne, James Cummins, Laurence Daly, Tommy Mitchell, Michael Waldron, Andrew Peters, Seamus Roche (0-1), Carlos O Gara, Darren Connolly (0-3), David McDonagh (2-2), Richie Kilkenny. Subs used: Thomas Waldron, Liam Noone (0-1).
