South Mayo U-16 A C’ship v Ballinrobe match report

Ballinrobe proved too strong for Davitts in the South Mayo U-14 A Championship on Tuesday evening in Ballinrobe winning decisively by 6-16 to 2-9. The homeside got off to a flyer and had 2-2 on the board before Dylan Gallagher shot Davitts first score, a 10th minute point. The lively Fionn McLoughlin gave Davitts some hope with a cracking individual goal in the 11th minute and added a point less than a minute later. A third Ballinrobe goal just before the water break put the home team six points clear.

The Robe shot six points to Davitts four in the second quarter, Dylan Gallagher (3) and Ciaran Treacy on target for Davitts, but another goal in the last minute of the half saw Ballinrobe ahead by 4-8 to 1-6 at the interval.

Ballinrobe opened the second half scoring with two points but Davitts replied with points from Fionn McLoughlin and Dylan Gallagher (2) and a Dylan Gallagher goal in the 42nd minute narrowed the gap to seven points but that was as good as it got for the visitors. Ballinrobe took complete control in the final quarter shooting an unanswered 2-6, which could have been more were it not for some superb saves by Davitts keeper Dylan O Brien.

Others to catch the eye for Davitts were Mark Birmingham, Ethan Boyle, Conor McDermott, Dylan Gallagher, Ciaran Treacy and Fionn McLoughlin. Davitts: Dylan O Brien, Aaron Trench, Mark Birmingham, Sean Meehan, Conor Feerick, Ethan Boyle, Brian Corless, Conor McDermott, Dylan Gallagher (1-6), Ciaran Treacy (0-1), Burke Briere, Ronan Kelly, Harry Fallon, Fionn McLoughlin (1-2). Senior Championship C’ship v Claremorris match report

Claremorris 2-11  Davitts 0-16

Claremorris edged this very exciting Mayo Senior Championship first round tie played in Claremorris on Saturday. After playing second fiddle for most of the game, a strong final quarter display saw them see off a gallant Davitts side who made a mockery of their Division 3 league form.

A second minute point from Niall Treacy opened the scoring for Davitts, playing with the assistance of the wind in the first half. Claremorris capitalised on a defensive error a minute later to score a goal, finished by Ger Commins but made by the excellent Conor Diskin.  Davitts composed themselves well and shot two points from the very impressive Ronayne brothers Jack and Josh in the 4th and 8th minutes. The homeside hit points in the 11th and 12th minutes but Davitts points from Niall Treacy and Jack Ronayne left the sides level at the first water break.

Claremorris took the lead with a 17th minute point but Davitts points from Darragh McGale and Josh Ronayne saw their side regain the lead. Claremorris equalised in the 21st minute but Davitts, now playing some great football, hit points from Jack Ronayne, Ronan McNamara, Evan Ronane and Josh Ronayne to go four clear before Claremorris shot the last score of the half to leave Davitts ahead by 0-11 to 1-5 at the break.

The second half started with a Claremorris goal, a brilliant effort from Conor Diskin, after 20 seconds. A Josh Ronayne point three minutes later put Davitts ahead again and Jack Ronayne extended the lead to two points in the 37th minute.  Claremorris fought back with two points to tie the game again but Jack Ronayne edged Davitts in front just before the second water break.

Claremorris began to get control of the middle of the field and they shot an equalising point in the 51st minute and another two minutes later to regain the lead. Davitts captain Josh Ronayne put his side back level in the 58th minute but David Gannon, who had a great game for the homeside, fired over the winning score in the second minute of stoppage time to win the game for Claremorris.

While the defeat is very disappointing for Davitts, they will take great encouragement from the game, having played very well for most of the hour. The youngsters in the team were very impressive while the overall teamwork and workrate was admirable and bodes well for the future. Next up is a home tie against Ballintubber next Sunday.

Davitts: Keith Prendergast, Charlie Phillips, Cathal Higgins, Tom Corless, Thomas Ronayne, Tommy Waldron, Dmitry Trench, Ronan McNamara (0-1), Colm Boyle, Josh Ronayne (0-6), Jack Ronayne (0-5), Fenton Kelly, Niall Treacy (0-2), Darragh McGale (0-1), Evan Ronane (0-1). Subs used: Shane Treacy, Patrick Keadin, Johnno Clarke, Jack Trench.

South Mayo U-18 A C’ship v Claremorris match report

Davitts U-18’s made the short journey to Claremorris to take on the locals in the South A Championship on Friday evening but Claremorris, boasting a much more economical attack, took the spoils on a 2-14 to 0-13 scoreline. Claremorris were much sharper, particularly in the first half, with the benefit of a game under their belts already a possible factor, and now Davitts have to beat Ballinrobe next week to have a chance of reaching the final.

Claremorris had two points on the board before Dylan Gallagher opened Davitts account in the 7th minute. A ninth minute point for the homeside was cancelled out by a Fenton Kelly score a minute later but while Davitts shot six wides in the next five minutes while Claremorris tagged on a goal and three points to go seven points ahead. Fenton Kelly pulled one back for Davitts before the first water break.

Three Claremorris points in the second quarter were matched by three similar Davitts scores from the boot of Cathal Corless but a second Claremorris goal just before half time left the homeside ahead by 2-9 to 0-6 at the break and Davitts with a mountain to climb.

The stop start nature of the second half suited Claremorris and some fine defending and excellent goalkeeping thwarted Davitts on several occasions. Points from Dylan Gallagher and Cathal Corless (2) and three similar Claremorris scores maintained a nine point margin between the sides as the game entered the final quarter and semi darkness.

Davitts threw everything they had at the homeside but two more Cathal Corless points and one each from Fenton Kelly and Bon Glynn was not enough as Claremorris tagged on two more themselves before the final whistle to end up the victors by seven points.

Davitts best performers in this game were Brian Og McTigue, Fionnan Gallagher, Thomas Ronayne, Fenton Kelly, Cathal Corless, Jack Melvin, Dylan Gallagher and Bon Glynn.

Davitts: Tristan Diskin, Mark Birmingham, Micheal Hett, Brian Og McTigue, Fionnan Gallagher, Thomas Ronayne, Brian Birmingham, Fenton Kelly (0-3), Cathal Corless (0-7), Sean Keadin, Jack Melvin, Davey Hennessy, Dylan Gallagher (0-2), Jack Devane, Fionn McLoughlin. Subs used: Bon Glynn (0-1), Conor McDermott.

South Mayo U-14 C’ship v Mayo Gaels match report

Davitts and Mayo Gaels met in the South Mayo U-14 B Championship in Ballindine on Thursday evening and it was the visitors who took the spoils, winning by 3-14 to 4-9 after an entertaining game.

Davitts got off to a flying start and had 1-2 on the board in the first five minutes with Dylan Gormally (1-1) and Killian Kearns the scorers. Amazingly Davitts were held scoreless for the remainder of the half as the Gaels took over. The visitors led by 1-8 to 1-2 at halftime.

Davitts upped their game after the interval and Dylan Gormally goaled again in the 32nd minute. Aaron O Dea pointed and Aaron Conneely Basham shot two points but Mayo Gaels goaled twice and also added two points to lead by 3-10 to 2-5 at the second water break. Aaron Conneely Basham, now finding his best form, fired home a brilliant goal in the 45th minute but Gaels replied with two points and looked like they were heading for a comfortable victory but Davitts had other ideas. Aaron Conneely Basham pointed in the 56th and 57th minutes before Dylan Gormally expertly converted a 58th minute penalty to narrow the gap to four points. Injury time points from Aaron Conneely Basham and Noah O Brien closed the deficit to two points but the final whistle went as Mayo Gaels desperately hung on for the win.

Davitts had great performances from Ronan Hett, Adam Rattigan, Sean Clarke, Tadhg Feerick, Aaron Conneely Basham, Noah O Brien, Aaron O Dea and Dylan Gormally.

Davitts: Ronan Hett, Adam Rattigan, Sean Clarke, Ramen Habibi, Jason Boyle, Tadhg Feerick, Pierce Diskin, Noah O Brien (0-1), Aaron Conneely Basham (1-5), Peter Kilkenny, Dylan Gormally (3-1), Aaron O Dea (0-1), Luke Rattigan, Killian Kearns (0-1), Odhran McTigue. Sub used: Loughlin Darby

Junior League v Aghamore match report

Davitts 3-8  Aghamore 3-13

Davitts and Aghamore met in the Senior League Div 5 in Ballindine on Sunday with the visitors securing the points after an entertaining game. Aghamore led by 1-8 to 0-6 at halftime with Micheal Mangan, Brian Clarke, Shane Treacy, Liam Macken and Cathal Hennelly (2) getting the Davitts points.

Aghamore opened the second half scoring with a 31st minute point but this was cancelled out by Cathal Hennelly a minute later. Aghamore struck for their second goal in the 35th minute but a Cathal Hennelly point and a Cian Naughton goal gave the homeside some hope. This was shortlived though as Aghamore goaled for the third time and added a point just before the second water break. They extended their lead to nine points with a  47th minute point but Cian Naughton struck his second goal in the 51st minute. Aghamore added two more points either side of a fine Cathal Hennelly goal to win the game by five points. Best for Davitts were David Mitchell, Lawrence Daly, a no nonsense defender, Charlie Phillips, Brian Clarke, Shane Treacy, Cathal Hennelly and sub Cian Naughton.

Davitts: David Mitchell, Charlie Phillips, Lawrence Daly, Jordan Flanagan, Jamie Mullee, Jack Trench, Brian Og McTigue, Liam Macken (0-1), Shane Mitchell, Brian Clarke (0-1), Shane Treacy (0-1), Joe Prendergast, John Kilkenny, Cathal Hennelly (1-4), Micheal Mangan (0-1). Sub: Cian Naughton (2-0).

Senior League v Swinford match report

Swinford 1-6  Davitts 4-10

Davitts Seniors secured a morale boosting League win away to Swinford on Saturday evening. From the outset it was obvious that the Davitts lads were well fired up for the challenge and an early Fenton Kelly goal after excellent approach play by Niall Treacy and Darragh McGale set them on their way in the second minute. Two minutes later Davitts were awarded a penalty after a foul on Niall Treacy but the Swinford keeper saved well from Josh Ronayne. Swinford pointed in the fifth minute but Davitts took command and points from Jack Ronayne and Josh Ronayne (2) and an opportunistic goal from Darragh McGale left the visitors ahead by 2-3 to 0-1 at the first water break.

Swinford added two points to their tally before half time and an Evan Ronane point and a second Darragh McGale goal put Davitts into a ten point lead at the half time break. Both sides were guilty of some poor shooting as a number of good scoring chances were spurned.

Evan Ronane and Tommy Waldron hit early second half points for Davitts and Swinford replied with a 35th minute goal. A 38th minute Jack Ronayne point was cancelled out by a similar Swinford score three minutes later. Davitts outscored the homeside by 1-3 to 0-2 in the final quarter, the points coming from the boots of Josh Ronayne (2) and Cathal Hennelly with Niall Treacy bagging the goal after great work by Fenton Kelly and Cathal Hennelly.

Davitts had great performances from Thomas Ronayne, Tommy Waldron, Dmitry Trench, Ronan McNamara (making a welcome return after a lengthly layoff), and the forward sextet who linked very well throughout.

Davitts: Keith Prendergast, Micheal Hett, Cathal Higgins, Tom Corless, Thomas Ronayne, Tommy Waldron (0-1), Dmitry Trench, Ronan McNamara, Johnno Clarke, Josh Ronayne (0-4), Jack Ronayne (0-2), Fenton Kelly ((1-0), Niall Treacy (1-0), Darragh McGale (2-0), Evan Ronane (0-2). Subs used: Cathal Hennelly (0-1), Kieran Fahy, Shane Treacy, Patrick Keadin.
