Davitts senior team got their O’Mara Cup campaign off to a satisfactory start, with a hard-earned victory over Hollymount in windswept Ballindine on Sunday. The final scoreline of 2-10 to 1-12 looked very unlikely at half time as the homeside led by 2-8 to 0-4, making full use of the assistance of the strong wind, especially in the second quarter. In that period Davitts scored their two goals, the first by Liam Kearns after excellent work by the impressive team captain Michael Conroy and the second a fine individual effort by Aidan McTigue.
Hollymount stormed back into the game in the second half, chipping away at the lead, and they looked the likely winners with ten minutes remaining and only two points separating the two sides but Keith Prendergast and Michael Conroy pointed and Davitts held on to win by the narrowest of margins.
Davitts had solid performances from Kevin Gallagher, Colm Boyle, Johnno Clarke, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey, Keith Glynn, Keith Prendergast, Aidan McTigue and Michael Conroy.
