Senior League Div 3B v Hollycarra match report

Davitts 1-14  Hollymount Carramore 1-7

Davitts finally came to life in the closing stages of this Senior League Div 3B tie in Ballindine on Sunday, to fire over the last ten scores of the game and secure the win.

Davitts got off to a dream start and led by 1-1 to 0-0 after seven minutes, while playing against the wind. Brian Clarke opened the scoring with a fifth minute point and two minutes later Danny Corless finished to the net in style after a sweeping move involving John Kilkenny, Burke Briere, Tom Corless and Steve Nyland. Hollycarra pointed five times in a row between the 9th and 16th minutes to take the lead. Two Stephen Nyland points in the 22nd and 26th minutes restored the home side’s lead but the visitors got the last score of the first half as the sides went in level.

A Ronan Kelly point in the 34th minute for Davitts was followed by a 36th minute Hollycarra goal and when they extended their lead to three with a 38th minute point, Davitts looked in trouble. The home side spurned a number of scoring chances but gradually began to find their range. Ronan Kelly pointed in the 42nd and 47th minutes to narrow the gap to the minimum. A Dylan Burke point levelled the game on 57 minutes. Amazingly Davitts shot seven more points from the boots of Ronan Kelly (2), Liam Kearns (2), Tom Corless, Jordan Flanagan and Tadhg Feerick before the final whistle to secure a hard-earned win.

Jordan Flanagan, Tom Corless, John Kilkenny, Ronan Kelly, Stephen Nyland and second half subs Ryan McLoughlin, Liam Kearns and Noah O Brien were very influential figures for Davitts in this win.

Senior League Div 1A v Ardnaree match report

Davitts 1-12  Ardnaree 0-3

Davitts senior team made it two wins from three games in Div 1A of the league on Saturday evening when they defeated Ardnaree by twelve points in Ballindine. An extremely slippery surface and the greasy ball made conditions quite difficult but the home side adapted better and ran out the comfortable winners.

Davitts played with the advantage of the breeze in the first half and had points from Ciaran Treacy, Dylan Gallagher (2), Shane Treacy and a classy two-pointer from Tommy Waldron on the board before Ardnaree opened their account with a 16th minute point. A Cathal Corless point in the 21st minute and a 26th minute reply from the visitors left Davitts ahead by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break. Ardnaree were playing well in that second quarter but poor shooting and the tenacious defending of the home side made life very difficult for the North Mayo team’s attack.

Ardnaree had lots of possession in the opening ten minutes of the second half but were restricted to just a single point in the 38th minute. Davitts pushed on and the excellent Dylan Gallagher pointed two minutes later. In the 42nd minute Davitts’ dynamic wing-back Tommy Waldron got on the end of a slick move involving Mark Birmingham, Sean Keadin and Dylan Gallagher, to finish a great goal and put the home team firmly in command. Points followed via Dylan Gallagher, Ciaran Treacy and Ronan Kelly (2) as Davitts saw the game out impressively.

Dylan O Brien, Cathal Higgins, Tommy Waldron, Jack Melvin, Mark Birmingham, Shane Treacy, Cathal Corless, Andy Peters and Dylan Gallagher were most impressive for Davitts.

Davitts: Dylan O Brien, Patrick Keadin, Cathal Higgins, Brian Birmingham, Tommy Waldron (1-2), Thomas Ronayne, Sean Keadin, Jack Melvin, Charlie Phillips, Mark Birmingham, Shane Treacy (0-1), Cathal Corless (0-1), Dylan Gallagher (0-4), Andy Peters, Ciaran Treacy (0-2). Senior League Div 1A v Belmullet match report

Belmullet 1-10  Davitts 1-7

Belmullet made it two wins from two in Div 1A of the senior league after beating Davitts in Tallagh on Saturday evening. The greasy ball and windy conditions meant that good football was at a premium in a very stop-start game.

The home side made the better start and their impressive midfielder Anthony Barrett gave them the lead with a second minute point. Davitts responded well with a Jack Melvin two-pointer in the 5th minute, a classy point from wing-back Tommy Waldron a minute later and another Melvin two-pointer in the 7th minute. In the 9th minute, Belmullet got a timely boost when an Anthony Barrett effort for a point dropped short and full-forward Diarmuid O Donoghue was quickest to react and he finished it to the Davitts net. A David Cosgrove point for Belmullet, from a hotly-disputed 3 and 3 decision in the 11th minute, levelled the game. Ciaran Treacy restored Davitts lead with a 16th minute point and a minute later Jack Melvin scored a Davitts goal, finishing in soccer style after a clever dummy from Jack Devane, following the home team’s goalie Shane Nallen getting stranded up-field. Davitts kicked some bad wides in the second quarter and Belmullet scored the last two points of the half through Rian Concannon and Anthony Barret in the 22nd and 29th minutes, to leave Davitts ahead by 1-6 to 1-4 at the break.

Davitts struggled to make any impact up front in the third quarter and Belmullet points from Shane Nallen, Conan Connor and David Cosgrove in the 33rd, 35th and 40th minutes, saw them take the lead. A black card for Davitts’ sub Stephen Nyland in the 47th minute didn’t help their cause but another Davitts sub, Ronan Kelly, levelled the match in the 51st minute. The commitment shown by both sides was admirable in the worsening conditions but Belmullet centre-back, Padraig Cowman, put his side two ahead with a brilliant long-range effort in the 53rd minute. Davitts threw everything they had at the home side in the closing minutes and a long Mark Birmingham delivery was superbly fetched by Jack Melvin but his shot for goal got blocked down. The referee failed to award the advanced mark and Belmullet cleared their lines. Another floated ball by Mark Birmingham was again caught by Jack Melvin and Shane Nallen saved his goal attempt but again the advanced mark was also turned down. Belmullet finished off the game in the 60th minute with a breakaway move that ended with an Eamon McAndrew point to give his side a hard-earned win.

Shane Nallen, Conan Connor, Rian Concannon, Anthony Barrett, Seamus O Donnell, David Cosgrove and Diarmuid O Donoghue were impressive for Belmullet while Brian Birmingham, Charlie Phillips, Thomas Ronayne, Tommy Waldron, Jack Melvin, Mark Birmingham, Andy Peters and Ciaran Treacy battled hard for Davitts.

Belmullet: Shane Nallen (0-1), Shea O Donoghue, Conan Connor (0-1), Padraig Meeneghan, Rian Concannon, Padraig Cowman (0-2), Thomas Tighe, Seamus O Donnell, Anthony Barrett (0-2), David Cosgrove (0-2), Eamon McAndrew (0-1), James Ivers, Peter McArthur, Diarmuid O Donoghue (1-0), Luke O Reilly. Senior League Div 3B v Aghamore match report

Davitts 2-11  Aghamore 0-17

Davitts and Aghamore met in the first round of the Senior League Div 3B in Ballindine on Sunday and while both sides could legitimately claim that they should have won, a draw was probably the fairest outcome after a well-fought encounter.

The visitors started well and had four points on the board before wing-back Tom Corless opened Davitts account with a ninth minute point. Ronan Kelly shot another Davitts point in the 11th minute. A 13th minute Aghamore point was matched by Davey Hennessy two minutes later. Ronan Kelly narrowed the deficit to the minimum in the 19th minute but Aghamore sent over six unanswered points before half-time to lead by 0-11 to 0-4 at the break.

Davitts sub Darragh McGale pointed in the first minute of the second half but Aghamore responded well with a two-pointer and two single points to go ten points clear after 38 minutes. Davitts then got a major lift when Jack Devane fired home a brilliant goal after good approach work by Thomas Ronayne, Darragh McGale and Danny Corless. Points from Ronan Kelly, Davey Hennessy (2) and Tom Corless in the 44th, 45th, 47th and 54th minutes left just three between the teams and if Davitts shooting had been better they possibly could have been leading at this stage. Aghamore lifted the siege with another point in the 57th minute but a second Jack Devane goal, a carbon copy of his earlier one, created by Ronan McNamara, Danny Corless and Ronan Kelly, left just a point separating the teams. Wing-back Burke Briere levelled the match in the 60th minute. Aghamore thought they had won it when they pointed two minutes into injury-time but Davitts rallied and young Ronan Kelly held his nerve to point an awkward free-in to ensure a share of the spoils.

Jordan Flanagan, Tom Corless, Donie Ronayne, Burke Briere, Ronan Kelly, Danny Corless, Ronan McNamara, Davey Hennessy, Jack Devane and Darragh McGale played well for a battling Davitts team.

Davitts: Joe Prendergast, Ben Corless, Jordan Flanagan, Sean Keadin, Tom Corless (0-2), Donie Ronayne, Burke Briere (0-1), Ronan Kelly (0-4), Sean Clarke, Danny Corless, Liam Kearns, Fionn McTigue, Brian Eagney, Ronan McNamara, Davey Hennessy (0-3). Subs used: Thomas Ronayne, Darragh McGale (0-1), Jack Devane (2-0), John Kilkenny, Brian Birmingham.
