Minors v Balla – Match Report

Davitts minors turned on the style in the Summer League in Ballindine on Friday evening, defeating Balla by 3-12 to 0-7. Davitts were in control of the game from the throw in with midfielders Cathal Hennelly and Padraig Mangan (both minors again next year) in superb form. Davitts led by 1-8 to 0-3 at half time with the impressive Liam Noone scoring the goal. The same player had a penalty brilliantly saved by the Balla custodian after Gerald Griffin was fouled. Matthew Trench was having a blinder at wing forward but his goal-scoring touch deserted him in this game.

Davitts continued to impress in the second half and while everyone played well, the performances of Will I Am Freeley, Donal Ronayne, Cathal Hennelly, Padraig Mangan, Matthew Trench, Liam Noone, Gerald Griffin, Evan Ronayne and Thomas Waldron were particularly noteworthy. Two fantastic goals from the very talented Evan Ronayne sealed this impressive win. Ronayne’s second goal was one of the finest goals seen at the venue, with Evan supplying a cracking finish to a sweeping move.

Davitts team: Michael Mangan, Dylan Keadin, William Freeley, Dylan Higgins, Jack Rogers (0-1), Donal Ronayne (0-1), Seanie Burke, Padraig Mangan, Cathal Hennelly, Matthew Trench (0-3), Liam Noone (1-5), Gerald Griffin, Evan Ronayne (2-2), Thomas Waldron, Richie O Connor. Sub used: John Huane.

U-14’s v Ardmoy – League Semi Final – Match Report

Davitts U-16 team qualified for the County Div 4 League Final in emphatic style after defeating Ardmoy by 5-16 to 1-4 in the semi-final in Ballindine on Tuesday evening. The result was never in doubt and Ardmoy were unlucky to encounter this Davitts team, playing on top of their game. Denis Fahy, John Kilkenny, Patrick Keadin, Evan Ronayne and Shane Treacy were superb throughout as Davitts raced to a 1-10 to 0-1 lead at halftime, Treacy the goalscorer, after being put through by Daniel Huane. A serious looking arm injury to an Ardmoy midfielder midway through the first half certainly didn’t help their cause.

Davitts were in no mood for relaxing and kept the pressure on the visitors throughout the second half. Further goals from Treacy, Ronayne, Huane and Kilkenny ensured that Davitts qualified for the final. Well done to the whole squad and the team management of JP Kirrane, David Ronayne and Liam Griffin. It would only be fair to mention the performance of the referee Gerard Lohan whose handling of the game was first class.

Davitts team: Caelainn Mullee, Ciaran Fahy, Denis Fahy, John Kilkenny (1-0), Christopher Ryan, Cathal Moran, Jamie Mullee, Patrick Keadin (0-3), Francis Griffin (0-1), Evan Ronayne (1-7), Andrei Trench, Shane Treacy (2-5), Daniel Huane (1-0). Subs used: Lorcan Diskin, Daniel Floss Jones, Kelan Cosgrove, Donal Kirrane.

Seniors v Crossmolina – championship – Match Report

A powerful second half performance from Davitts wasn’t enough to save them from a 1-10 to 0-10 Senior Championship defeat away to Crossmolina on Sunday.  Crossmolina led by 1-7 to 0-3 at the interval, the crucial goal coming just before halftime from the accurate boot of Conor Loftus. Davitts pointscorers were Ronan McNamara , Josh Ronayne and Keith Prendergast. Davitts display was below par up to this stage with very few players enhancing their reputations although Cathal Higgins and Colm Boyle were notable exceptions.

Davitts were a completely different team in the second half with midfielder Ronan McNamara putting in a powerful shift. Long range points from McNamara (3), Prendergast (2), Colm Boyle and Josh Ronayne accounted for their second half tally as Davitts showed their true form. They came up just short as the experienced home side managed to see out the game.

Over the course of the game Davitts best players were Adrian McNamara, Cathal Higgins, Donal Ronayne, Ronan McNamara, Keith Prendergast, Thomas Waldron and the outstanding Colm Boyle.

Davitts: Adrian McNamara, Colm Roche, Cathal Higgins, Donal Ronayne, Johnno Clarke, Alan Roche, James Cummins, Ronan McNamara (0-5), Paul Carey, Josh Ronayne (0-1), Keith Prendergast (0-3), Colm Boyle (0-1), Andrew Peters, David McDonagh, Fearghal McGrath. Sub used: Thomas Waldron.

Planning permission – clarification

Davitts GAA Club would like to clarify the situation regarding our application for planning permission to construct dressing rooms and toilets at our training ground at Newpark, which is situated a mile north of Ballindine.  This training ground is locally referred to as the ‘Old Pitch’.

A few months ago the club was delighted to have received a generous Sports Capital Grant to help with the construction of a multi-purpose clubhouse at our main pitch in Ballindine village. We have received planning permission for this project and will begin work there in the very near future.

We also sought planning permission for the construction of a dressing room and toilet facilities at our training pitch in Newpark (the Old Pitch). At present there are no toilets or dressing rooms available there. We cater for a large number of teams from Under 6 up to adult, male and female, and this training ground is used daily by all of our teams. It is this planning permission application that is causing confusion among our supporters and has nothing to do with the project at our main pitch in Ballindine village.

Charlestown 2-19  Davitts 3-7

Charlestown captured the County U-14 Div 3 League title in fine style in McHale Park on Monday evening, defeating a gallant Davitts team after a very entertaining game.
