Seniors v Caherlistrane – Match Report
Davitts Senior team kick-started their season with a competitive challenge match away to Caherlistrane on Sunday. The teams played three periods of 25 minutes with Davitts coming out on top in the end by 3-14 to 2-10. Both sides got to use all of their squads over the course of the game.
Davitts led by 2-4 to 1-3 after the first “third” with Ronan McNamara scoring the opening goal after two minutes and the same player assisting Michael Conroy for the second goal in the 16th minute. Josh Ronayne was moving well in the forwardline and he scored some lovely points in that period.
Davitts lost their way in the opening ten minutes of the second period, conceding 1-3 without reply which could have been worse but for some sterling defensive work by Donal Ronayne, Cathal Higgins and Kevin Gallagher. Points from Liam Kearns (2), Declan Healy, Josh Ronayne and Michael Conroy had Davitts ahead by 2-9 to 2-8 going into the final period.
Davitts finished the game out well with team captain Declan Healy and Sean Waldron getting on top at midfield. Thomas Waldron, Aidan McTigue, JP Kirrane, Andrew Peters, Seamus Roche and Patrick Keadin all showed up well when sprung from the bench. Aidan McTigue scored 1-2 and points from Seamus Roche, Josh Ronayne and Thomas Waldron completed Davitts tally.
