U-16 League v Erris St. Pats match report

Davitts 2-10   Erris St. Pats 1-7

Davitts U-16 hosted Erris St. Pats in the opening round of the Div 6 League on Thursday evening and secured the win after a hard fought match. After Erris took the lead with a fourth minute point, Davitts replied with a fine point from Aaron CB and a well taken goal and a point from Aaron O Dea. An Erris point in the 14th minute was cancelled out by fine point kicked by Davitts impressive wing back Dylan Burke. Erris pointed in the 20th and 25th minutes a second Aaron CB point left Davitts ahead by 1-4 to 0-4 at the interval.

Aaron CB extended Davitts lead to four in the first minute of the second half but Erris fired in a goal two minutes to leave the minimum separating the teams. The visitors added a point in the 34th minute to tie the match. Davitts got a break when they were awarded a penalty for a foot block on Dylan Gormally in the 36th minute which Aaron O Dea converted with aplomb. Davitts added points from Dylan Burke, Jason Boyle and Aaron O Dea to go six ahead as the game entered the final quarter.

Erris responded well and it took some superb defending from the Davitts defence to deprive them of a second goal. Erris did shoot points in the 51st and 55th minutes but Davitts finished the game strongly and tagged on two more points in the last couple of minutes through Aaron O Dea and Aaron CB.

Ronan Hett had a solid game in goals for Davitts with Dylan Burke and Noah O Brien in excellent form in defence ably assisted by Odhran O Conaire and Cillian Kearns. Jason Boyle did well at corner back and showed his versatility when switched to an attacking role in the second period. High fielding Sean Clarke and Dylan Gormally secured a lot of possession around midfield where the powerful running of Aaron CB proved very difficult for the Erris boys to handle. Aaron O Dea was superb up front along with Malachy Devane, a clever player, and Luke and Adam Rattigan.

Davitts: Ronan Hett, Odhran O Connaire, Jason Boyle (0-1), Dylan Burke (0-2), Noah O Brien, Cillian Kearns, Sean Clarke, Aaron Conneely Basham (0-4), Luke Rattigan, Dylan Gormally, Malachy Devane, Adam Rattigan, Aaron O Dea (2-3).

Minor League v Ballaghaderreen match report

Davitts 3-13  Ballaghaderreen 0-6

Davitts Minors got their Div 3 League campaign off to a flying start with an impressive win over Ballaghaderreen in Ballindine on Tuesday evening. The home side didn’t take long to settle and had early points from the influential Conor McDermott, Dylan Gallagher and Ronan Kelly before Dylan Gallagher goaled clinically after a great solo run in the ninth minute. Dylan Gallagher, a constant thorn for the Ballagh defence, pointed again a minute later before Ballagh registered their first score, a 12th minute point. An 18th minute Dylan Gallagher point was cancelled out by Ballagh a minute later before Gallagher reeled off three more points to see Davitts lead by 1-7 to 0-2 at the break.

Ballaghaderreen opened the second half scoring with a point in the 32nd minute. The visitors were playing well now but found the Davitts defence very hard to breach. Ciaran Treacy picked off a point in the 38th minute to restore Davitts eight point lead. Ballagh replied with a point of their own before Davitts firmly turned the screw with a three minute scoring blitz. Points from Ronan Kelly, Dylan Gallagher and Ethan Boyle and a classy Ciaran Treacy goal put Davitts thirteen points ahead after the third quarter.

A 46th minute Ballagh point was cancelled out by Dylan Gallagher and Sean Keadin, Davitts marauding full back rattled home his side’s third goal in the 54th minute after great work by Ronan Kelly and Fionn McLoughlin. Fionn McLoughlin completed Davitts scoring in the 57th minute with a point and Ballagh shot their final score three minutes later.

This was an impressive team display by the Davitts team with excellent performances all over the field.  The defence were very tenacious and Mark Birmingham and Burke Briere formed a solid midfield pairing. The forwards showed great teamwork and were way more efficient than their Ballaghaderreen counterparts.
