Davitts 1-10 Ballinrobe 0-9
There was a good crowd in sunny Davitt Park on Saturday evening to watch Davitts and Ballinrobe lock horns in the opening round of the O Mara Cup. A strong second half performance saw the homeside win an entertaining game.
Ballinrobe, playing against the wind in the first half, looked impressive early on and shot the first two points in the 4th and 8th minutes before Shane Treacy got Davitts first score in the tenth minute. Ballinrobe added two more points in the 11th and 13th minutes but then Davitts began to settle. Points from Ronan McNamara, Jack Ronayne and Jack Melvin tied the game and the excellent Niall Treacy put Davitts ahead with a 23rd minute point. Ballinrobe shot the last two scores of the first half in the 30th and 31st minutes to lead by 0-5 to 0-4 at halftime.
Davitts played much better football in the second half and after the visitors pointed in the first minute of the second period, Davitts took control. Ronan McNamara pointed in the 33rd minute and the same player got the game’s crucial score five minutes later when he goaled with a powerful strike after great work by Jack Ronayne, Dmitry Trench and Colm Boyle. Ronan McNamara added three well taken long range frees and Niall Treacy fired over a beauty from play to extend Davitts lead to seven points with less than ten minutes left. The Davitts defence was very impressive in the second half, limiting the visitors to very few scoring chances until the closing minutes. Ballinrobe kept fighting to the end and they scored three late points to reduce the deficit to four points at the final whistle.
Davitts had very solid performers in Cathal Higgins, Colm Boyle, Dmitry Trench, Jack Ronayne (who had a stormer at midfield), Aidan Macken, Niall Treacy, Darragh McGale and top scorer Ronan McNamara, still as influencial as ever in his new role in attack.

Davitts 3-19 Mayo Gaels 1-7
Davitts played Mayo Gaels in round one of the South Mayo U-16 B Championship in Ballindine on Friday with the home side running out the comfortable winners after an impressive display.
Davitts were on top throughout and led by 2-10 to 0-4 at half time. Davitts scorers in that first half were Ciaran Treacy (0-4), Conor McDermott (1-2), Ronan Kelly (0-3), Aaron O Dea (1-0) and Aaron Conneely Basham (0-1).
Two early Fionn McTigue points extended Davitts lead in the second half. Further points from Aaron Conneely Basham, Ronan Kelly and Ciaran Treacy followed before Mayo Gaels got their first point of the second half in the 44th minute. A third Davitts goal by Ronan Kelly two minutes later was followed by another Ciaran Treacy point. Mayo Gaels, battling to the end, added a goal and two points before the final whistle with Ronan Kelly and Ciaran Treacy (2) adding three further points for the home side.
On an evening when everything went their way, Davitts keeper Dylan O Brien had one of his quieter days in goals, thanks to a very determined defence in front of him. Tadhg Feerick, Brian Hett and Oisin O Gara were extremely solid in the full back line while Ethan Boyle had a blinder at centre back with wing men Sean Clarke and Brian Corless also in top form.
Conor McDermott (1-2) and Burke Briere controlled the midfield sector throughout the game.
Up front the very lively Ciaran Treacy (0-8) and Ronan Kelly (1-5) did most of the scoring damage with Aaron Conneely Basham (0-2), Aaron O Dea (1-0), Fionn McTigue (0-2) and Dylan Gormally all looking lively.
The subs, Michael Hyland, Luke Rattigan, Ronan Hett, Jason Boyle, Ben Corless, Cillian Kearns and Oran McTigue contributed well when introduced in the second half.

Ballinrobe 4-20 Davitts 0-8
A very impressive Ballinrobe side proved to be much too strong for Davitts in this South Mayo U-18 A Championship match played in Ballinrobe on Sunday.
Ballinrobe were in command from the off and kicked three unanswered points in the first three minutes of the game. Jack Melvin opened Davitts account in the 10th minute but a five minute scoring blitz by the deadly Ballinrobe attack yielded two goals and five points between the twelfth and the seventeenth minute of the half. Jack Melvin pointed again in the 19th minute but Ballinrobe replied with two goals and a point inside three minutes. Jack Melvin added two points before the break, as did Ballinrobe, to leave the home side with a commanding 4-11 to 0-4 lead at the break.
It was damage limitation for Davitts in the second half and fair play to the whole team and subs introduced who fought bravely to the end. Ballinrobe added nine points to their tally in the second period with Aaron Trench (2), Fionn McLoughlin and Jack Melvin shooting scores for Davitts. Davitts did create a number of good goalscoring chances but the Ballinrobe goalkeeper was in top form, pulling off a number of excellent saves.
The result means that Ballinrobe and Claremorris will contest next week’s South Mayo final.
