Seniors v The Neale – Match Report

Davitts took on The Neale in Div 3 of the Senior League on Saturday in Ballindine with the visitors winning by 1-15 to 0-10 after producing a very strong second half performance.

The Neale played with the assistance of the wind in the first half and shot the opening three points in the first six minutes. The Davitts defence tightened up considerably for the remainder of the half with Patrick Keadin, Cathal Higgins, Tommy Waldron and Dmitry Trench impressing. Ronan McNamara pulled one back with a 55 metre free kick a minute later. The Neale pointed again in the fifteenth minute and again in the eighteenth minute, just after Ronan McNamara had swung over another long ranger. Ronan McNamara narrowed the gap to two points with another fine 20th minute strike but The Neale cancelled this out almost immediately. Michael Conroy pointed twice from placed balls in the last five minutes of the half with Evan Ronane getting his side’s first point from play in injury time with The Neale adding one point to their tally to lead by 0-7 to 0-6 at halftime.

When Tommy Waldron pointed in the second minute after the restart,after good work by Michael Conroy and the quick thinking Keith Prendergast, it looked like the home side were set to push on. The Neale had other ideas and they began to gain control of the game. They pointed in the 5th, 11th, 14th, 15th and 16th minutes with Cathal Hennelly firing over two well taken points for Davitts in the 13th and 17th minutes. A goal for The Neale in the 20th minute put paid to Davitts chances and they added three more points before the finish with a neat Darragh McGale point, Davitts sole reply.

Juniors v Ballintubber – Match Report

Davitts Junior’s faced Ballintubber in an away Div 4 League match on Sunday with Ballintubber proving too strong and winning by 2-8 to 0-6.

The homeside had clocked up three points before Liam Noone opened Davitts account in the 11th minute. A goal from the homeside in the 15th minute gave them breathing space. They added another point in the 26th minute but Davitts rallied with points from Liam Noone and flying wing back Liam Macken, Davitts best player, to leave Ballintubber ahead by 1-4 to 0-3 at halftime.

Ballintubber started the second half with a bang and they goaled in the second minute. Liam Noone replied with a fifth minute point but Ballintubber were in command. They shot four unanswered points in the 13th, 14th, 19th and 22nd minutes. Davitts added two points through Sean Waldron and Liam Noone before the final whistle.

Seniors v Shrule Glencorrib – Match Report

Davitts travelled to Shrule to face Shrule Glencorrib in Div 3 of the Senior League and the sides played out an exciting draw, 1-11 each, in a game played in ideal climatic conditions.

Davitts dominated the first half and led by by 0-9 to 0-3 at the break. They notched some very good points from Evan Ronane (2), Keith Prendergast (2), Josh Ronayne (4), and Cathal Hennelly and appeared to be cruising.

Shrule Glencorrib however got themselves right back into the game shooting three points in the opening five minutes of the second period. Evan Ronane stemmed the flow with an eighth minute Davitts point. Shrule Glencorrib narrowed the gap to two points in the nineteenth minute but a Cathal Hennelly goal a minute later, after good work by Liam Kearns and Michael Conroy, looked like settling the issue.

A grandstand finish by the battling homeside saw them level the match as it entered injury time. A trademark Ronan McNamara long range free kick put Davitts ahead again but Shrule Glencorrib snatched a late equaliser to earn a share of the spoils.

Best for Davitts were Patrick Keadin, Tommy Waldron, Padraig Mangan, Josh Ronayne, Evan Ronane and Keith Prendergast.

Juniors v Kiltimagh – Match Report

Davitts 0-16 Kiltimagh 2-9

Davitts hosted Kiltimagh in the first round of the County Junior B Championship on Sunday. After a cracking game of football the homeside came out victorious with an injury time Seamus Roche point shading the verdict.

The visitors got off to a flying start and led by 1-5 to 0-2 after thirteen minutes. Davitts points were scored by the impressive Liam Noone and Liam Macken, with Gary Regan pointing five times for the visitors and Ryan Carroll goaling in the 11th minute.

Well taken points from Darragh McGale, Sean Waldron, Shane Treacy (2), Ryan McLoughlin and Seamus Roche levelled the match but another Gary Regan point before the break left Kiltimagh ahead by 1-6 to 0-8 at halftime.

A Tommy Clarke point in the 34th minute tied the game and three Liam Noone points and a cracking Ryan McLoughlin point put Davitts four up as the game entered the final quarter. Liam Lydon and Gary Regan points for Kiltimagh were matched by Sean Waldron and Liam Noone. Dylan Roche pointed in the 56th minute for Kiltimagh and Liam Lydon buried a super goal in the sixtieth minute, after great work by midfielder Sean Walsh, to tie the match.

Davitts were not to be outdone however and team captain Seamus Roche popped over a classy point three minutes into injury time to win the match for Davitts.

This was a tremendous team effort by Davitts and credit to Kiltimagh for playing their part in a very entertaining game.

Minors v Bonniconlon – Match Report

Davitts Minor’s continued on their winning run in Div 4 of the League with a convincing 4-14 to 0-6 win over Bonniconlon in Ballindine on Friday evening. The scoreline flattered the homeside as Bonniconlon had plenty of possession but the Davitts attack was at times unstoppable with all six forwards and both midfielders contributing to the scoreline.

Davitts led by 2-6 to 0-4 at halftime after points from Jack Trench (2), Stephen Nyland, Jack Devane (2) and Zack Keadin and two terrific goals from Niall Treacy, after a great Stephen Nyland run, and Fenton Kelly, who fetched Joe Prendergast’s well placed kickout, played a one two with Jack Trench, before burying a rasper past the helpless keeper.

The trend continued in the second half with Bonniconlon enjoying a fair amount of the ball but Davitts looking sharp in an attack led by the superb Niall Treacy. Treacy created the second goal, setting up Danny Corless who finished with aplomb while subs Brian Birmingham and Davy Hennessy combined for the fourth goal withy the latter supplying the finish. There were second half points from Niall Treacy (3), Jack Devane, Stephen Nyland, Fenton Kelly, Danny Corless and Cathal Corless.

Joe Prendergast was a very confident goalkeeper with defenders Thomas Ronayne, Oisin O Connor, Charlie Phillips, Gary Bourke, Fionan Gallagher and Sean Feerick in a mean mood throughout the game. Stephen Nyland (0-2) and Fenton Kelly (1-1) impressed at midfield. Jack Trench (0-2), Niall Treacy (1-3), Cathal Corless (0-1), Danny Corless (1-2), Zack Keadin (0-1) and Jack Devane (0-3) formed a hard working attack that linked up very well. Substitutes Tristan Diskin, Bon Glynn, Davy Hennessy (1-0), Brian Og McTigue and Brian Birmingham were introduced in the second half and they all did well.
