Seniors v Breffy – Match Report

Breaffy 1-10 | Davitts 2-14

Davitts earned two valuable league points with an excellent victory away to Breaffy on Sunday. Both sides were very understrength but Davitts had the game’s outstanding player in midfielder Ronan McNamara who gave a wonderful exhibition of fielding and shooting throughout.

Breaffy looked the more likely team in the first half and led by 0-8 to 0-4 at the break. Matthew Ruane and Tommy Reilly were lively in attack while Davitts squandered several good scoring chances in that half. Breaffy’s first half scores came from Eddie Conroy, Tommy Reilly (2), Matthew Ruane (2), Alan Durcan (2) and a huge Robbie Fadden effort, while Ronan McNamara (2), Thomas Waldron and Keith Prendergast supplied Davitts tally.

Martin Connolly’s half time pep talk didn’t fall on deaf ears as his side came out with all guns blazing. Points from McNamara (2), Aidan McTigue and Liam Kearns had the sides level after ten minutes. Seamus Roche and the majestic McNamara put Davitts two up before Tommy Reilly struck for an opportunist goal. Durcan pointed from a free to put Breaffy two points up with twelve minutes remaining.

Davitts goalkeeper Adrian McNamara got sent off after an altercation with Alan Durcan but his teammates raised their game to a new level. They added 2-3 to their tally in the next five minutes to secure the victory. Points from Liam Noone, Liam Kearns and Aidan McTigue and two goals from Kearns and Keith Prendergast left the homeside shellshocked and a Colm Kelly point was their only reply.

Apart from Ronan McNamara, Davitts had other fine performances from Colm Roche, Martin Cosgrove, Keith Prendergast, Michael and Thomas Waldron, Seamus Roche, Liam Kearns and Aidan McTigue.

Best for Breaffy were Colm Dravins, Colm Kelly, Robbie Fadden, Matthew Ruane, Michael Hall and Tommy Reilly.
