U-15’s through to County Final

Davitts U-15 team qualified for the County Division 2 League Final, by defeating Naoimh Phadraig, 1-13 to 1-8, in an entertaining semi-final played in Ballindine on Sunday morning. Davitts started brightly with early points from the impressive Liam Noone and Michael Clarke, before Noone netted in the 8th minute after excellent work by Matthew Trench. Naoimh Phadraig began to get to grips at midfield and were the better team for the remainder of the first half but points from Noone, Trench, Clarke and team captain Thomas Waldron left Davitts ahead, 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval.

Davitts controlled the game well in the second half with man of the match Donie Ronayne, now operating at midfield, in unstoppable form, and qualified for a mouth watering final clash against neighbours Carras (Garrymore and Kilmaine) next weekend. Davitts stars in this good win were William Freeley, John Huane, Jack Rodgers, Matthew Trench, top scorer Liam Noone, Michael Clarke, Thomas Waldron, Cathal Hennelly and the superb Donie Ronayne.

Kiltimagh v Davitts – Senior League Div 1B

An understrength Davitts team were defeated, 1-9 to 1-6, away to a Kiltimagh side who needed a result to ensure their Div 1B safety, in the final round of the league on Saturday. Davitts, comfortable in mid-table, but also keen to avenge their championship quarter-final defeat, were always struggling against their hosts, and trailed by 1-4 to 0-3 at halftime, the goal looking very suspiciously like a square ball but in all fairness the Davitts woodwork had been tested on a number of occasions by the Kiltimagh attack.

Davitts began to make things a bit edgy in the Kiltimagh camp in the second half, getting on top at midfield through Ronan McNamara and John Heneghan, and an excellent goal by Liam Kearns with ten minutes remaining left the game in the balance, but the homeside held on deservedly for a three point victory. As well as those mentioned earlier, Davitts had excellent performances from Mark Diskin, an agile goalkeeper, Luke Ronayne, Frankie Barrett, Johnno Clarke, James Cummins, Colm Roche, Michael Conroy and the lively Aidan McTigue.

Davitts: Mark Diskin, Tommy Nolan, Luke Ronayne, Laurence Daly, Johnno Clarke, James Cummins, Ronan McNamara (0-1), John Heneghan, Liam Kearns (1-2), Keith Prendergast, Colm Roche, Aidan McTigue (0-2), David McDonagh, Michael Conroy (0-1).

U-10's win Penny Cup

The U-10’s finished off the year in style by defeating Michael Glavy’s of Ballinlough by 4-7 to 1-5 in the Penny Cup final played in Ballindine on Sunday. However Davitts pulled away in the second half with 3 goals in ten a blistering ten minute period.

On a day when every Davitts player was to the fore, the outstanding players for Davitts were Cian Naughtan, Niall Kearns, Colin Mulligan, Jordan Flanagan, Stephen Nyland and (last but by no means least) team Captain Dimitri Trench who is most certainly one to watch for the future.

The homeside went four points up early in the second half and it looked like they would win easily but the Davitts lads showed tremendous spirit with David Mitchell, Donie Ronayne, Tommy Heneghan, Michael Waldron, Josh Ronayne and Darren Connolly leading the charge and came so close to snatching an unlikely win, Josh Ronayne hitting the crossbar with the last kick of the game.
