Davitts 2-9 Parke Keelogues Crimlin 2-11
PKC came to Ballindine on Sunday morning and a scoring blitz in the first eight minutes of the second half that yielded 2-2 helped them to the two Senior League Div 3 points which were on offer.
After the visitors shot the first two points of the game in the opening two minutes, points from Michael Conroy and Brian Clarke followed by a Ronan McNamara goal in the seventh minute put Davitts ahead. PKC pointed in the eighth minute but Fearghal McGrath and Fionn McLoughlin did likewise for the home team in the next two minutes to put them four points ahead. PKC came more into the game in the second quarter and they shot five points before the break with Fearghal McGrath and Michael Conroy replying for Davitts, leaving them ahead by 1-6 to 0-8 at the break.
The visitors got a dream strart to the second half with goals in the 32nd and 37th minutes and two points in the 36th and 38th minute to lead by seven points. Davitts, despite this setback, battled away but a Brian Clarke point in the 44th minute was deemed wide by the neutral umpire, a decision that infuriated the Davitts players and the referee issued Brian Clarke a black card for his protests. Michael Conroy was issued another black card three minutes later and a PKC player received a second yellow card in the 50th minute as the referee flexed his muscles.
The Davitts team kept plugging away and points from Fearghal McGrath in the 51st minute and two from Keith Prendergast in the 53rd and 54th minutes narrowed the deficit to four points (one of those points was signalled wide by the afore-mentioned umpire but this time his error was rectified by the ref and the score stood). PKC lifted the siege with a 59th minute point but Donie Ronayne got on the end of a great Davitts move in the 61st minute to fire home a goal but there wasn’t enough time to rescue the game as the final whistle was blown thirty seconds later.
Davitts had good performances from Patrick Keadin, Brian Birmingham, John Kilkenny, Fionn McLoughlin, Brian Clarke and Fearghal McGrath on a day when luck certainly was not on their side.

Ballyhaunis 3-9 Davitts 2-16
Davitts’ unbeaten start to their Senior League 1A campaign continued on Sunday when they overcame the challenge of Ballyhaunis after a right struggle. The game was played in glorious conditions in Ballyhaunis and although the hosts were missing a number of regulars, Davitts had to pull out all the stops to finally gain the upper-hand.
Ballyhaunis opened the scoring with a second minute point but two from Shane Treacy in the next three minutes put Davitts ahead. A Ballyhaunis goal in the seventh minute restored their lead but Davitts fired over four points through Jack Melvin, Niall Treacy, Fenton Kelly and Colm Boyle to lead by two after eighteen minutes. Ballyhaunis got a rub of the green in the 21st minute when a long range effort at a point ended up in the Davitts net as they took the lead again. Davitts responded with a fine Jack Melvin point after a great run to level the game. A 25th minute Ballyhaunis point was cancelled out by Niall Treacy two minutes later. The homeside struck for the last two points of the half as they went in ahead by 2-4 to 0-8 at the interval.
Davitts’ impressive midfielder Jack Melvin got the first score of the second period in the 32nd minute. Ballyhaunis pointed in the next minute but excellent play from Davitts’ Mark Birmingham and Fenton Kelly set up Melvin for a 34th minute goal as the lead flip-flopped again. Two points in the 37th and 39th minutes from Niall Treacy and Dylan Gallagher extended Davitts lead to three but Ballyhaunis would not lie down. They fired over two in the 40th and 43rd minutes. Niall Treacy got a Davitts point in the 45th minute but the homeside struck for their third goal in the 46th minute, taking advantage of some very poor Davitts defending, to take the lead again. Ballyhaunis extended their advantage to two points in the 50th minute but Davitts regained the lead through a brilliant Liam Kearns goal after super work from Charlie Phillips, Colm Boyle and Jack Melvin. Ballyhaunis equalised again in the 57th minute but Davitts added points from Liam Kearns, Shane Treacy and two superbly struck long range free kicks from man of the match Jack Melvin to clinch the win.

Hollymount Carramore 2-5 Davitts 0-9
Davitts will be wondering how they managed to lose this Senior League Div 3B match played in Hollymount on Friday evening. After a well-contested first half, with the locals leading by 1-3 to 0-4 at the break, Davitts dominated most of the second half but were guilty of some wasteful shooting and two injury-time points for Hollycarra saw them win the tie.
After Hollycarra opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, three Davitts points from Michael Conroy and Fearghal McGrath (2) put Davitts ahead by the eleventh minute. Two points from the homeside in the 16th and 17th minutes levelled matters before Michael Conroy shot over in the 23rd minute. A 28th minute Hollycarra goal gave them a two point lead at the interval.
The crucial score came in the 38th minute. Davitts strung together a great move which ended in Cian Naughton appearing to be swung to the ground as he was about to shoot for goal. Everyone in the ground expected a penalty to be awarded but the ref saw things differently. The home team took full advantage of their lucky break and immediately counter attacked and scored a well worked goal to extend their lead to five. Davitts were fired up now, taking complete control, and points from Fearghal McGrath (2), Michael Conroy and Keith Prendergast (2) levelled matters with four minutes remaining. Poor shooting though was to prove costly. Hollycarra finished the game well with two late points to secure the win.
Best for Davitts were Patrick Keadin, Brian Birmingham, Brian Clarke, Burke Briere, Cian Naughton, Ronan Kelly (who was having a great game up to his retiral through injury in the first half), Fearghal McGrath, Michael Conroy and Keith Prendergast.
Davitts: Joe Prendergast, Patrick Keadin, Michael Hett, Brian Birmingham, Johnno Clarke, Brian Clarke, Jack Trench, Burke Briere, Cian Naughton, Ronan Kelly, Fionn McLoughlin, Davey Hennessy, Aidan McTigue, Fearghal McGrath (0-4), Michael Conroy (0-3). Davitts 1-11 Belmullet 0-12
Belmullet made the long journey to Ballindine on Saturday evening but it was the homeside that prevailed in this absorbing senior league Div 1A clash. The result hung in the balance right up to the final whistle but Davitts were able to withstand all that the visitors could throw at them in the tense five minutes of injury time allotted by referee Benny Holmes, who unfortunately was a central figure throughout the game.
Two early Niall Treacy points in the first three minutes got Davitts off to a flying start. Seamus Howard, a most impressive midfielder, fired over an excellent point for Belmullet in the fifth minute. The same two players swapped points in the next ten minutes but scores were hard to come by despite the ideal conditions, thanks to the hard-working and committed defending by both sides. Dáithí Cosgrove levelled the game in the twentieth minute but Davitts’ centre-forward Liam Kearns, having the game of his life, opened his account in the 26th minute with a fantastic long range point. The same player added another fine point in the 30th minute but two well-taken scores from Evan Ivers and Anthony Barrett levelled the game, 0-5 apiece, at the break.
The second half started well for Davitts and in the second minute that man Kearns finished a terrific move involving Charlie Philips, Darragh McGale and Colm Boyle to the visitor’s net to put his side ahead. Liam Kearns extended the lead to four in the 34th minute with another brilliant point. Belmullet were rattled but they responded well and points from Seamus Howard, Ryan McIntyre and Darragh Murray in the next six minutes narrowed the deficit to the minimum. A Niall Treacy point in the 42nd minute was closely followed by another Kearns point, an outside of the boot line-ball, a score that delighted the home crowd and restored Davitts’ three point lead. Belmullet wing-back James Lavelle pulled one back in the 46th minute and points from Brian Keane and Dáithí Cosgrove in the 51st and 54th minutes levelled the game.
A neat Colm Boyle point put Davitts ahead again in the 55th minute but a similar score from Dáithí Cosgrove restored parity a minute later. Liam Kearns lit up the ground with another superb point in the 57th minute and Colm Boyle put Davitts two ahead in the 59th minute. Belmullet tried in vain to get a goal to rescue the tie but the Davitts team defended in most impressive fashion to deny the visitors in the closing six minutes of an enthralling match.
Davitts had brilliant performances from Cathal Higgins, Mark Birmingham, Sean Keadin, Charlie Phillips, man of the match Liam Kearns, Niall Treacy, Darragh McGale and Colm Boyle.
Best for a gallant Belmullet team were James O Donnell, James Lavelle, Oisin O Donnell, Evan Ivers, Seamus Howard, Fionnan Ryan, Dáithí Cosgrove and Anthony Barrett.
