Introducing Mr. & Mrs – Couple # 5…

Introducing Mr. & Mrs - Couple # 5...

Luke Ronayne and Joanne O’Gara

This popular couple, due to get married later on in the year, will be strong contenders to lift the crown. Luke, from Kilmacnella, is a well known Davitts player and a massive Mayo fan. It is rumoured that a certain member of his family may not be there to support him on the night as he has other engagements in Rome. Luke is being mentored for this event by his neighbour Michael Hett, himself another big Mayo fan. Ballindine native Joanne is a sister of current Davitts senior player Carlos. She is really looking forward to the competition and her biggest concern is trying to help Luke overcome his shyness.

Introducing Mr. & Mrs – Couple # 4…

Mark and Olive Diskin

The former Davitts forward, midfielder and goalkeeper takes his place in the line-up for the Mr. & Mrs. Contest and many would consider Mark and his wife Olive to be one of the favourites to win. The Carranurlaur couple are rumoured to be working long into the night in the build-up to March 9th, plotting how they can win the coveted title. Indeed Mark will take a grave view if they do not emerge victorious.

Olive, who hails from Dunmacreena, will have big support in Bourkes and she has stated that herself and Mark will leave no stone unturned in their quest to win. Olive said “It has been my lifetime ambition to appear on the stage in Bourkes and I am taking this event very seriously”.

Introducing Mr. & Mrs - Couple # 3...

Patrick Kirrane and Tara Reapy

The third couple taking part in the Davitts Mr. & Mrs contest is Tara Reapy and Paddy Kirrane. One of the youngest couples taking part, they will nonetheless fancy their chances of claiming the prestigious title. With the competition heating up nicely, Paddy’s participation is sure to add fuel to the flames. The former Davitts shot stopper has assured us that he is saving some of his best quick-fire responses for the cheeky questions on the night.

Tara, currently an IT student in Galway, has been busily trying to program all possible questions and answers into her boyfriends head for the big night. When asked to rate how Paddy was coping with memorising the sheer volume of information, Tara gave Paddy a C++ rating…(Google it!).

Introducing Mr. & Mrs – Couple # 2…

Pete and Geraldine Warren

Just to prove that this event is no sham, we are delighted to announce that Pete and Geraldine Warren are throwing their hats into the ring. The popular Tuam couple are confident that they will emerge victorious on the night. Already installed as favourites to win with Stagg Bookmakers, Pete has indicated that that this would be right up there in his impressive list of achievements, were they to pull it off.

Pete said “To win such a prestigious title that is Mr. & Mrs. Davitts would be on a par with winning a county final with Tuam Stars or Davitts or an All-Ireland with Galway”. Geraldine (the boss) said that couples such as Ronan Mac and Sarah Broderick won’t phase them and both herself and Pete can’t wait for March 9th to come.

Davitts v Hollymount-Carramore – Match Report

Davitts 1-9

Hollymount-Carramore 0-12

Hollymount-Carramore snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat with two injury time frees in this O’Mara Cup first round tie played in Ballindine on Sunday. Davitts, playing with the assistance of the wind, led by 1-5 to 0-4 at halftime, the goal coming from David McDonagh after great work by Michael Waldron, Liam Kearns and Seamus Roche. Davitts first half tally was completed by Ronan McNamara with three long range points and one each from Paul Carey and Fearghal McGrath.

Davitts appeared to be holding on for a victory with points from the outstanding McNamara (2), Seamus Roche and Liam Kearns, but those late Hollymount Carramore frees ensured a share of the spoils. Both teams were short a number of regulars and a draw was probably the fairest result.

Outstanding for Davitts were David Mitchell, who made some superb saves, Donal Ronayne, Kevin Gallagher, Michael Waldron, James Cummins, Paul Carey, Seamus Roche, Darren Connolly and man of the match Ronan McNamara.

Davitts: David Mitchell, Donal Ronayne, Michael Ronayne, Kevin Gallagher, Michael Waldron, James Cummins, Mark Ronayne, Paul Carey (0-1), Ronan McNamara (0-5), Keith Prendergast, Fearghal McGrath (0-1), Liam Kearns (0-1), Seamus Roche (0-1), David McDonagh (1-0), Richie Kilkenny. Sub used: Darren Connolly.

Introducing Mr. & Mrs – Couple # 1…

Ronan McNamara & Sarah Broderick

Welcome to our first preview of the couples that will be competing for the coveted title of ‘Davitts Mr. & Mrs’!

And what better way to kick off the introductions than with last year’s Senior Team Captain, “Romantic” Ronan Mac and his girlfriend, “Scintillating” Sarah Broderick.

Shy, timid and private are just some of the words that would be completely unsuitable to describe this couple. Ronan, a member of An Garda Síochána based in Co. Sligo, has been a stalwart of the Davitts midfield for the last decade. One of the most popular players in the club, Ronan is CELLdom found lacking in the art of conversation.

Sarah is a native of Balla, but is in the process of being converted to a Davitts woman! A Secondary School teacher, we’re not exactly sure what subjects Sarah specialises in, but let’s assume she would be well capable of giving lessons in…PE?

When asked what they thought of their chances of winning the Mr. & Mrs. competition, Ronan said – “I wouldn’t have entered this competition if I didn’t think we would win”. Sarah said – “I will do my best to help Ronan win because I know winning this title is one of his life ambitions. He’s a passionate Davitts man, and we will be working hard in the coming weeks to ensure we do win the Mr. and Mrs. title…”

Interested in competing in the Mid West Radio ‘All County Quiz’?

Anybody interested in getting a team of 4 together and competing in the Mid West Radio ‘All County Quiz’ on Thursday 4th April? Every GAA Club in the county has been invited to gather as many teams as possible to participate in the quiz.

You will be competing with teams from all around the County on the night, not just the other teams in the room! The questions will be broadcast into the venues via radio. The local venue for the quiz would be one of the pubs, most likely The Borderline. Entry fee is €40 per table of 4, and spot prizes will be available in the venue on the night (with proceeds of the raffle going to Davitts).

Head over to the Club Facebook page and ‘Like’ the related post if you would possibly be interested in taking part, so we can gauge interest and register or intention to host the quiz locally!
