U-i6’s v Kilmeena – Match Report
Davitts U-16’s hosted Kilmeena on Tuesday evening and dismissed their challenge with a powerful performance to win by 8-11 to 2-9. Five very well taken goals from David Devane (2), Liam Macken, Jack Ronayne and James Ruane and a tremendous penalty save by the impressive Shane Cummins, helped Davitts to a commanding 5-8 to 0-3 halftime lead. The points were scored by Jack Ronayne (2), Niall Kearns, Thomas Corless, Ciaran Fahy, James Ruane, Niall Treacy and Ryan McLoughlin.
Kilmeena upped their game in the second half as both teams played some lovely football. Further Davitts goals courtesy of Jack Ronayne, Ryan McLoughlin and Cian Treacy and points by James Ruane, Niall Treacy and Jack Ronayne accounted for Davitts second half tally.
Shane Cummins, a bright goalkeeping prospect, had a superb match and got great cover from his two corner backs Jordan Flanagan and Stephen Nyland. The marauding David Devane (2-0), Dimitri Trench and Aidan Macken formed an impressive half back line. Ciaran Fahy (0-1) and Niall Kearns (0-1) dominated the midfield exchanges for long periods while facing a strong Kilmeena pairing. Davitts forwards Jack Ronayne (2-3), James Ruane (1-2), Niall Treacy (0-2), Ryan McLoughlin (1-1), Cian Treacy (1-0), Thomas Corless (0-1) and Liam Macken (1-0) all chipped in with scores and strung some lovely moves together over the course of the game.
