U-21’s v Hollymount Carramore – Match Report
An understrength Davitts U-21 team bowed out of the Brennan Cup on Wednesday evening when losing by 2-8 to 1-8 against Hollymount Carramore in Hollymount. The game was played in difficult greasy conditions but both sides contributed to an entertaining game.
The homeside made full use of their wind advantage in the first half and they led by 2-5 to 1-3 at the break with Conor Keane (2) and Liam Noone notching the Davitts points and Mattie Trench scoring the goal with a tidy finish.
Hollymount Carramore extended their lead early in the second half but Davitts really took the game to them after that. Driven on by Patrick Keadin, Padraig Mangan, William Freeley and the excellent Shane Treacy, they began to chip away at the lead. Points from Liam Noone (2), Evan Ronayne (2) and Michael Clarke narrowed the gap to three points before the finish but they could not get through the tight home defense for the goal they needed.
The Davitts players gave their all in the game and it was great to see the young players like Kieran Fahy, John Kilkenny, Jack Ronayne, Daniel Huane and Ryan McLoughlin looking comfortable at this level and also the return of Michael Clarke and Richie O Connor after a lengthy absence.
