U-21’s v Belmullet – County Quarter Final
Davitts advanced to the semi-final of the County U-21 B Championship with a convincing 4-15 to 2-8 victory over Belmullet in Crossmolina on Tuesday evening. Belmullet started this game in whirlwind fashion and led, 2-3 to 0-1 after eight minutes. Davitts slowly began to claw at this lead with midfielder John Heneghan leading the charge and Fergal McGrath and Josh Ronayne impressing up front, and the sides went in level at half time, 2-4 to 1-7, McGrath the Davitts goalscorer with an outstanding individual goal.
The second half belonged to Davitts, with Keith Glynn dominating the midfield exchanges alongside team captain Shane Mitchell, ensuring a liberal supply of ball to the fluid forwardline. Davitts tagged on three further goals via McGrath (2), completing his hat trick, and another beauty from Josh Ronayne (now proving unstoppable). Davitts will have to overcome their habit of letting their opponents off to a good start but one would have to marvel at the spirit that this close knit group of players show, everyone a star in a great victory.
