U-21s v Aghamore – Match Report
Davitts U-21 team met the current County Champions Aghamore in the first round of the Championship in Ballindine on Wednesday evening and were defeated, 4-9 to 1-8, by the visitors. Aghamore showed why they are strongly fancied to retain their title with a powerful second half showing after the two sides went in level at the break, 1-5 each.
The first half was a tit for tat affair with Conor Keane scoring three quality points for Davitts that had his team 0-3 to 0-1 ahead before Aghamore scored a goal in the fifteenth minute. They added three points to go into a four points lead before Cathal Hennelly fired home a neat goal for Davitts. Hennelly and Liam Noone added points before the break as the sides went in level at the interval after a half of fast and furious football.
Aghamore scored two points in the first five minutes of the second half with Thomas Waldron pointing for the homeside. Two goals by the visitors in quick succession midway through the half killed off the Davitts challenge. Davitts refused to throw in the towel but points from Evan Ronayne and Cathal Hennelly was all they could add to their tally while a late Aghamore goal gave them a slightly flattering ten point winning margin.
Davitts best performers in this game were Kieran Fahy, Patrick Keadin, Shane Treacy, Thomas Waldron, William Freeley, Conor Keane and Cathal Hennelly.
