U-21’s off to a winning start in County Championship
Davitts young U-21 team travelled to Balla on Tuesday evening and defeated the homeside, 4-11 to 1-7, in the first round of the County C Championship, in a game played in terrible conditions. Davitts put down their marker early with Michael and Sean Waldron in top form at midfield and three superb goals from the excellent Josh Ronayne (2) and Darren Connolly (an audacious chip) helped Davitts to lead by 3-3 to 0-4 at halftime.
Davitts never allowed Balla get a grip in the game and some terrific points by Clive Hennigan, Josh Ronayne and Darren Connolly kept the scoreboard ticking over in the second half and a second Connolly goal was the icing on the cake in a tremendous team performance.
Team captain David Mitchell was a confident goalkeeper and in front of him Donie Ronayne, Cathal Higgins and Jason Connolly were in top form in defence. The two Waldrons were superb at midfield throughout but up front Davitts had held the aces. Andrew Peters, a minor player with a huge future, although not scoring himself, was involved in everything. Josh Ronayne and Darren Connolly were razor sharp and the unorthodox style of play by the talented Clive Hennigan proved difficult for the Balla defence to contain.
