U-21’s advance to semi-final of the County U-21 C Championship
Davitts advanced (though not as impressively as the scoreline suggests), to the semi-final of the County U-21 C Championship, defeating Tourmakeady by 3-12 to 0-6 in Hollymount on Tuesday evening. Davitts were always in the driving seat in this game and led by 2-5 to 0-3 at the break, their goals coming from Tommy Clarke and Josh Ronayne.
Tourmakeady could have been much closer but for some very wayward shooting although Davitts were also guilty in this respect.
The Davitts boys played much better in the second half and impressive substitute Liam Noone killed off the Tourmakeady challenge with a goal five minutes from time. Davitts, while delighted to make the semi-final, will be aware that they will have to perform much better to advance in this competition.
Team captain David Mitchell was excellent in goals while in the defence, Brian Clarke, Donal and Mark Ronayne, Cathal Higgins and Jason Connolly stood up well to anything the Tourmakedy attack could offer. Sean and Michael Waldron did well at midfield, both showing tremendous workrate. Thomas Waldron was the star player for Davitts getting good support up front from Clive Hennigan, Josh Ronayne, Tommy Clarke and Darren Connolly, while substitutes Liam Noone, Gearoid Lyons and William Freeley showed that they are well able to cut it at this level.
