U-18’s v Ballinrobe match report
Ballinrobe 4-20 Davitts 0-8
A very impressive Ballinrobe side proved to be much too strong for Davitts in this South Mayo U-18 A Championship match played in Ballinrobe on Sunday.
Ballinrobe were in command from the off and kicked three unanswered points in the first three minutes of the game. Jack Melvin opened Davitts account in the 10th minute but a five minute scoring blitz by the deadly Ballinrobe attack yielded two goals and five points between the twelfth and the seventeenth minute of the half. Jack Melvin pointed again in the 19th minute but Ballinrobe replied with two goals and a point inside three minutes. Jack Melvin added two points before the break, as did Ballinrobe, to leave the home side with a commanding 4-11 to 0-4 lead at the break.
It was damage limitation for Davitts in the second half and fair play to the whole team and subs introduced who fought bravely to the end. Ballinrobe added nine points to their tally in the second period with Aaron Trench (2), Fionn McLoughlin and Jack Melvin shooting scores for Davitts. Davitts did create a number of good goalscoring chances but the Ballinrobe goalkeeper was in top form, pulling off a number of excellent saves.
The result means that Ballinrobe and Claremorris will contest next week’s South Mayo final.
