U-17 v Mayo Gaels match report

Davitts 0-14  Mayo Gaels 1-8

An excellent second half performance saw Davitts U-17 team take the two league points in this County Division 3 tie played in Ballindine on Friday evening. The Gaels looked the better team in the first half and led at halftime by 1-4 to 0-6 after playing against the breeze in the opening half.

Burke Briere opened the scoring with a third minute point and Fionn McLoughlin added another a minute later before Mayo Gaels shot their first point in the 5th minute. Noah O Brien put Davitts two points ahead with a neat point in the eighth minute but two Mayo Gaels points in the next two minutes levelled the game. Davitts captain Mark Birmingham scored points in the 15th and 19th minutes. A 25th minute Mayo Gaels point was cancelled out by Fionn McLoughlin two minutes later but two minutes before the break Mayo Gaels scored the only goal of the game to go in a point ahead at the interval.

Early second half points by Aaron Conneely-Basham and Ronan Kelly saw Davitts regain the lead. Fionn McLoughlin extended the lead to two points in the 42nd minute. Mayo Gaels pulled a point back but four points from Fionn McLoughlin (3) and Burke Briere saw Davitts  lead by five points with time running out for the visitors. Mayo Gaels shot two points in injury time with Davitts keeper Dylan O Brien scoring a long range free as Davitts saw the game out well.

This was a solid team performance by Davitts with Brian Hett, Aaron Trench, Burke Briere, Mark Birmingham, Ronan Kelly, Aaron Conneely-Basham and Fionn McLoughlin in great form.
