U-16’s v The Neale – South Mayo A Final

Davitts U-16 team were defeated, 1-7 to 0-6, in a well fought South Mayo A Championship final, played in greasy, slippery conditions in Garrymore on Wednesday evening. Davitts, playing with the aid of the wind in the first half, led at half time, 0-4 to 0-2, and this lead would have been greater were it not for some uncharacteristic wayward shooting by the Davitts attackers.

The games turning point came midway through the second half when The Neale goaled from a rebound, after Davitts keeper Sean Waldron had pulled off a superb save, to take a 1-4 to 0-5 lead.

Davitts had heroic defenders in William Freeley, Brian Clarke, Cathal Higgins, Gerard McWalter and the Mangan brothers Michael and Padraig. Sean Waldron had a fine game in goals. Midfielders John Macken (0-1) and Donie Ronayne won plenty of possession while up front Andrew Peters (0-1) excelled again, as did Tommy Waldron (0-1), while Shane Cummins, Liam Noone (0-2), Michael Clarke (0-1), Gearoid Lyons and Matthew Trench all had their moments.

Davitts GAA Club wish The Neale team the best of luck in their quest to win the County title.
