U-16’s v Mayo Gaels match report

Davitts 3-19  Mayo Gaels 1-7

Davitts played Mayo Gaels in round one of the South Mayo U-16 B Championship in Ballindine on Friday with the home side running out the comfortable winners after an impressive display.

Davitts were on top throughout and led by 2-10 to 0-4 at half time. Davitts scorers in that first half were Ciaran Treacy (0-4), Conor McDermott (1-2), Ronan Kelly (0-3), Aaron O Dea (1-0) and Aaron Conneely Basham (0-1).

Two early Fionn McTigue points extended Davitts lead in the second half. Further points from Aaron Conneely Basham, Ronan Kelly and Ciaran Treacy followed before Mayo Gaels got their first point of the second half in the 44th minute. A third Davitts goal by Ronan Kelly two minutes later was followed by another Ciaran Treacy point. Mayo Gaels, battling to the end, added a goal and two points before the final whistle with Ronan Kelly and Ciaran Treacy (2) adding three further points for the home side.

On an evening when everything went their way, Davitts keeper Dylan O Brien had one of his quieter days in goals, thanks to a very determined defence in front of him. Tadhg Feerick, Brian Hett and Oisin O Gara were extremely solid in the full back line while Ethan Boyle had a blinder at centre back with wing men Sean Clarke and Brian Corless also in top form.

Conor McDermott (1-2) and Burke Briere controlled the midfield sector throughout the game.

Up front the very lively Ciaran Treacy (0-8) and Ronan Kelly (1-5) did most of the scoring damage with Aaron Conneely Basham (0-2), Aaron O Dea (1-0), Fionn McTigue (0-2) and Dylan Gormally all looking lively.

The subs, Michael Hyland, Luke Rattigan, Ronan Hett, Jason Boyle, Ben Corless, Cillian Kearns and Oran McTigue contributed well when introduced in the second half.
