U-16’s v Louisburgh – Match Report
Davitts U-16 team were beaten by a very impressive Louisburgh side in the County Div 3 League final in Foxford on Friday evening. The Louisburgh forwardline were razor sharp as they registered a 3-16 to 0-14 win.
Davitts had most of the play in the opening ten minutes but failed to score as Louisburgh nicked 1-2 from three attacks in that period. The hardworking Niall Kearns opened Davitts account and the same player, Cian Naughton, Stephen Nyland (2), and David Devane added points to leave Davitts trailing by 1-8 to 0-6 at the interval.
Davitts tried valiantly to get back into the game throughout the second half but Louisburgh were always able to hit Davitts on the break and their shooting was most impressive. They added two well worked goals to kill off the Davitts team that fought hard right up to the final whistle.
While Davitts will be very disappointed at losing this final, the team can now look forward to the Championship after a very fine League campaign.
Shane Cummins showed his class in goals with some excellent saves while Takeshi Kilkenny, Oisin O Connor, Dimitri Trench, Jordan Flanagan and the dynamic David Devane (0-2) tried manfully to contain Louisburgh’s well drilled forwards.
Cian Naughton (0-2) and Niall Kearns (0-3) both played well against two formidable opponents at midfield. Stephen Nyland (0-6) played very well in attack and got good assistance from Niall Treacy, James Ruane, Dean Moran, Fentan Kelly (0-1) and Zack Keadin.
