U-16s v Claremorris – Match Report
Davitts hosted Claremorris in the Semi-Final of the South Mayo U-16 A Championship on Tuesday evening but Claremorris came out on top by 3-9 to 1-9 to advance to the Final where they will meet Carras. Davitts opened the scoring with a Niall Kearns point but Claremorris dominated most of the first half and led by 1-6 to 0-1 after twenty minutes against a strangely subdued homeside. Davitts then began to claw at the lead and points from James Ruane, Cian Naughton and Jordan Flanagan narrowed the gap but Claremorris replied with a crucial second goal to lead by 2-6 to 0-4 at the interval.
Davitts were much better in the second half with Jordan Flanagan, the inspirational Dimitry Trench, Niall Kearns and James Ruane really taking the game to their opponents. A killer third Claremorris goal put them firmly in the driving seat with fifteen minutes remaining. Davitts took over after this but after several attempts to get a goal, when easy points were there for the taking, James Ruane finally goaled with a terrific finish to the bottom corner. The same player pointed and two more points from Cian Naughton and one from Niall Kearns completed Davitts tally.
Claremorris were the stronger team on the day but Davitts will be regretting not opting for points in the second half.
