U-16s v Ballina – Match Report

Davitts U-16’s were defeated by a strong Ballina side, 1-16 to 2-5, after an enjoyable League tie played in Ballindine on Friday evening. The exchanges were close in the first half and the sides went in at the break deadlocked, Davitts 1-4 to the visitor’s 0-7.

Davitts first half goal was finished by Jack Devane, with Fenton Kelly, Cathal Corless and Jack Devane (2) the point scorers.

Ballina, whose attack were sharper and more efficient than their hosts, reeled of the first four points of the second half before Davy Hennessy narrowed the gap to a single point after grabbing an opportunistic goal following some great work by Jack Melvin.

Indeed Davitts could have taken the lead from the kickout when midfielder Fenton Kelly gained possession and soloed through but his goalbound effort was deflected onto the post. Ballina regained composure and added a further 1-5 before the end with Fenton Kelly pointing Davitts sole reply.

Davitts best players in this game were Sean Keadin, Thomas Ronayne, Cathal Corless, Fenton Kelly, Bon Glynn and Jack Devane.
