U-16’s v Ardnaree – Match Report

Davitts and Ardnaree met in a U-16 Division 2 League game in Ballindine on Tuesday evening and they produced a thriller with the homeside just shading it by 3-6 to 2-8. A very early goal by influential midfielder Niall Kearns and another a few minutes later courtesy of Dimitri Trench had Davitts off to a flyer. Ardnaree gradually began to claw back at the lead and only trailed by two points, 2-3 to 1-4 at half time, having played against the wind in the first half. Davitts first half points came from Jack Ronayne (2) and Niall Kearns.

The second half was played in the same frantic manner as the first and a Jack Ronayne goal gave Davitts some breathing space. Ardnaree fought back again and drew level with five minutes remaining. In the final dramatic minutes Davitts substitute Dean Moran combined with James Ruane and he clipped over a lovely point that proved to be the match winning score. Ardnaree had one final gilt edged chance to win the game when they were awarded a penalty in the final seconds.
