U-16’s progress to Championship final

Davitts and Ballinrobe went to battle in the County U-16 Championship 3 semi-final in difficult conditions in Hollymount on Friday evening. The Davitts boys came out on top by 3-9 to 2-4 after a very lively and entertaining match. Davitts led by 1-6 to 1-2 at the break, the Davitts goal coming from the trusty left boot of the highly influential midfielder Jack Rodgers.

There was some excellent football played by both sides throughout and some of the scores taken were of a very high quality. A second half penalty nailed by Rodgers after Richie O Connor was pulled down and a slick finish by Shane Treacy, a just reward for all his hard graft, were the sources of Davitts goals, while young Evan Ronayne slotted over four superb points.

Dylan Keadin was immense in defence (as usual) for Davitts, while Denis Og Fahy, Dylan Higgins, Michael Mangan and Seanie Burke all played well in front of Thomas Monaghan who had a fine game in goals. Padraig Mangan and the superb Jack Rodgers controlled midfield for long periods. Up front Evan Ronayne was the star of the attack, with Gerald Griffin, Shane Treacy, Mikey Devane and Richie O Connor all working extremely hard to ensure Davitts passage to the final.

Davitts team: Thomas Monaghan, Dylan Keadin, Dylan Higgins, Seanie Burke, Michael Mangan, Denis Og Fahy, Padraig Mangan (0-1), Jack Rodgers (2-2), Mikey Devane, Gerald Griffin (0-1), Evan Ronayne (0-4), Shane Treacy (1-0), Richie O Connor (0-1). Subs used: Kieran Waldron, Francis Griffin.
