U-16’s continue winning ways in first round of Championship
Davitts U-16 team, fresh from their County League Final success, got their County Championship campaign off to a perfect start, defeating Westport by 3-10 to 3-3, in a game played in atrocious conditions in Ballindine on Tuesday evening. Davitts trailled by two points at half time, a Jack Rodgers goal keeping them in touch of Westport, but a storming second half display ensured a great victory.
Davitts assumed complete control around the middle through Padraig Mangan, Cathal Hennelly, Mikey Devane and Michael Mangan in the second half and goals from Padraig Mangan and Gerald Griffin put Davitts in the driving seat as the defence inspired by Dylan Keadin, Dylan Higgins, Michael Mangan and Denis Og Fahy held the Westport attack scoreless in that half. At the other end, all of the Davitts forwards were very impressive in terrible conditions, with Hennelly, Griffin and Evan Ronayne scoring well. A special word of praise for referee Padraig Costello who did a good job.
