An impressive Ballinrobe team got the better of Gaeil Na Daibheidí in the semi-final of the U-16 League Div 2 on Thursday evening in Ballindine. The game was played in perfect conditions and the visitors were full value for their win, with their ability to carve open the GND defence and create goal chances, five of which they converted, proving to be the difference.
Midfielder Aaron O Dea put the home team ahead with a first minute point. Ballinrobe equalised in the 3rd minute but two points from Charlie Fallon and Aaron O Dea edged GND into the lead by the 11th minute. A 13th minute Ballinrobe goal and points in the 14th and 15th minutes put them three ahead. A 16th minute point from Charlie Fallon narrowed the deficit to two. The scores were flowing now and a Ballinrobe point in the 17th minute was cancelled out by Charlie Fallon less than a minute later. Ballinrobe fired over a 23rd minute point with Noeli Jennings replying with one in the 24th minute. Ballinrobe finished the half with two late points to take a 1-8 to 0-6 lead at half-time.
A fine two-pointer from Noeli Jennings in the 32nd minute was swiftly followed by a Charlie Fallon single to narrow the gap and give the hosts a boost but Ballinrobe reacted in style, shooting two goals and a point inside three minutes. Charlie Fallon and Aaron O Dea pointed for GND in the 36th and 37th minutes. Two Ballinrobe points in the 43rd and 46th minutes were matched by the homeside’s Fionn Burke and Charlie Fallon. Ballinrobe took over in the last fifteen minutes and they shot another two goals and three points in that period with a Charlie Fallon point two minutes from full-time the sole reply from GND.
Eimhin Kenny, Odhran O Conaire, Ryan Duggan, Aaron O Dea, Fionn Burke, Ryan Judge, Charlie Fallon and Noeli Jennings tried earnestly for GND but there was no stopping Ballinrobe on this occasion.
