U-15 County Final v Charlestown match report
Davitts 4-15 Charlestown 0-5
A very well drilled Davitts team proved too strong for Charlestown in the County U-15 C final played in perfect conditions in Claremorris on Thursday evening.
Davitts got into their stride early and shot the first four points of the game via Ronan Kelly, their outstanding captain Conor McDermott (2) and Brian Corless before a Cillian Hanley Marren point opened Charlestown’s account in the 12th minute. Another Ronan Kelly point in the 16th minute for Davitts was followed by a tremendous Tadhg Feerick goal, after some neat build up play by Dylan Gormally, to extend Davitts lead to seven points . Cillian Hanley Marren pointed for Charlestown in the 20th minute but this was cancelled out a minute later by an Aaron Conneely Basham point. Cian Towey scored two points for Charlestown in the 25th and 27th minutes and Conor McDermott hit one for Davitts in the 29th minute to leave his side ahead by 1-7 to 0-4 at halftime.
Davitts completely dominated the third quarter and a goal three minutes into the second period scored by their impressive substitute Burke Briere after great play by Noah O Brien and Ciaran Treacy put them firmly in command. Fionn McTigue and Ronan Kelly for Davitts and Charlestown’s Cillian Hanley Marren and sub Michael McCarthy exchanged points between the 39th and 41st minutes. Ciaran Treacy and Conor McDermott added points for Davitts before Aaron Conneely Basham hammered home his side’s third goal in the 44th minute, with Dylan Gormally again providing the assist. Aaron O Dea pointed a minute later to leave Davitts ahead by 3-12 to 0-6 at the second water break.
Ciaran Treacy goaled again for Davitts in the 46th minute and the same player, Burke Briere and Conor McDermott added points before referee Jon Finn blew the full time whistle.
This was an exceptional team performance from the Davitts team. Dylan O Brien had a quiet night in goald due to the superb defending of Jason and Ethan Boyle, powerful full back Brian Hett, Ben Corless, Sean Clarke and the two excellent wing backs Noah O Brien and Tadhg Feerick. Man of the match Conor McDermott and Brian Corless controlled the midfield sector. The Davitts attack strung together some super moves with Ronan Kelly, Ciaran Treacy and Aaron Conneely Basham excellent on the half forward line. Dylan Gormally had a fine game as did Burke Briere when introduced before half time while Fionn McTigue, Michael Hyland, Aaron O Dea and Luke Rattigan all made their contributions to a great win.
Well done also to the management team of Derek Byrne, Declan Kirrane, Frank Kelly and Brendan Kilkenny.
And finally, we wish Peter Kilkenny a speedy recovery from an injury sustained on Wednesday which resulted in him missing this game. Get well soon Peter.
