U-14’s v Islandeady – Match Report

Davitts U-14 team continued their winning ways in the County League Division 4 with a clinical demolition of Islandeady in Ballindine on Thursday evening. On an evening when nothing went right for the visitors the Davitts lads again played some terrific football to win by 10-23 to 1-2.

Davitts had led by 5-14 to 0-1 at half time and the way they passed the ball around to open up Islandeady was a credit to their coaches, Derek Byrne, John Trench and Francie Kelly.

Davitts hardworking midfielders Fentan Kelly and Sean Feerick were on top of their game, winning loads of possession, and supplying their lethal attackers. Niall Treacy led the forwardline well and his distribution and clever play was a joy to behold. Team captain Zack Keadin had another fine game and he Joe Prendergast and Davy Hennessy worked hard throughout to create the chances for the deadly Jack Trench and man of the match on this occasion, Jack Devane. Gavin Ring in goals pulled off a few smart saves and could do nothing to prevent the Islandeady goal. Micheal Hett, Fionan Gallagher, Brian Og McTigue, John Wallace and Thomas Ronayne gave very little away in defence while, as well as defending well, rampaging wing back Charlie Phillips managed to chip in with two expertly taken goals. The lively Jack Melvin, Dylan Walsh, Cathal Corless, Stephen Rattigan and Tristan Diskin showed that they have plenty to offer when they were sprung from the bench.

Davitts now have a home game in the League Semi-Final.
