U-14 League Div 4 Shield final v Hollycarra match report

Jun 10, 2025 | Other

Gaeil Na Daibheidí 11-5  Hollymount Carramore 3-11

Gaeil Na Daibheidí and Hollymount Carramore met in the U-14 League Div 4 Shield final on Monday evening in Ballindine and the large attendance were treated to a great display of attacking football from both sides. The eighteen point victory margin flatters the home team somewhat but their ability to create and finish goal chances was very impressive. Well done to the management team of Gabriel Devane, Richard Duggan, David McDonagh and Niall Roche.

Hollycarra got off to an ideal start and scored two points in the first minute of the game from the excellent Mark O Malley and Ciaran King but a second minute point by Niall Duggan and a 4th minute Blake Bradley goal had GND up and running. Mark O Malley pointed in the 5th minute and he scored a brilliant goal three minutes later to put the visitors ahead but GND replied with goals from the lively Niall McDermott and Seamie Roche in the 9th and 12th minutes. Mark O Malley, a player of real quality, struck for his and Hollycarra’s second goal in the 13th minute. Amazingly he shot 3-9 over the hour but wasn’t the game’s top scorer. That distinction fell to GND’s Blake Bradley who notched 6-1 in another marvellous display.

GND dominated the next fifteen minutes with Cormac Devane and Johnny Prendergast at midfield supplying the lethal attack with plenty of ammunition. Goalkeeper Kaden Heneghan had a great game and the defence were solid led by Cathal Cummins, Tom Roche and Ruairi O Dea. Blake Bradley blasted home three cracking goals in the 15th, 18th and 21st minutes, Niall McDermott claimed his second goal in the 19th minute, the industrious Conal Boyle netted in the 20th minute and Cormac Devane scored a classy point in the 22nd minute. Hollycarra rallied and Mark O Malley pointed in the 27th minute and blasted home his third goal two minutes later but GND had the last say of the half, with Tadhg Kirrane pointing in the final minute and Blake Bradley goaling again seconds later, to leave the hosts ahead by 9-3 to 3-4 at the break.

Blake Bradley opened the second half scoring with a point in the 34th minute and Tadhg Kirrane fired home a goal two minutes later as the homeside extended their lead. Hollycarra, who were minus the services of their star midfielder, CJ O Hara, refused to lie down and they showed great battling qualities right up to the final whistle with Ciaran King, Senan Conroy, Noah O Regan, Dara O Connor and Ethan Fahy to the fore along with Mark O Malley who shot the next three scores of the game, points in the 36th, 40th and 45th minutes. Niall McDermott pointed for the homeside in the 48th minute with Blake Bradley scoring his sixth goal in the 50th minute. Hollycarra scored the last four points of the game through Mark O Malley (3) and Ciaran King.
