U-14 ladies win Division 2 League Final
Davitts U-14 ladies defeated St.Marys by 4-9 to 3-4 in the County Div 2 league final in Swinford on Wednesday evening. This was a tough hard fought game of football with St. Marys getting off to a flyer and leading by 1-3 to 0-1 after ten minutes. Davitts fought back with a well taken goal by Laura Corless and points from Chloe Stephens, Emma Devane and Elaine Clarke. A second Laura Corless goal from the penalty spot had Davitts three points up at the interval.
St. Marys put on the pressure in the second half and Davitts had to rely on some terrific defending by Maeve McWalter, Niamh Higgins, Emma Corr, Ella Sheridan, Laura Waldron and the excellent Ronayne sisters Aoife and Eilis, to keep them at bay. A late Rebecca Waldron goal after a brilliant move downfield sealed a great Davitts victory.
Laura Corless and Chloe Stephens had the better of the midfield exchanges while Niamh Huane, Aishling O Connor, Ashley Devane, Emma Devane, Elaine Clarke and player of the match Rebecca Waldron were in top form in the Davitts forwardline. Other panel members were Alana Dixon, Kathleen Kearns, Siobhan O Gara, Caoimhe Rogers and Lisa Macken. Well done girls.
