South Mayo U-14 C’ship v Mayo Gaels match report

Davitts and Mayo Gaels met in the South Mayo U-14 B Championship in Ballindine on Thursday evening and it was the visitors who took the spoils, winning by 3-14 to 4-9 after an entertaining game.

Davitts got off to a flying start and had 1-2 on the board in the first five minutes with Dylan Gormally (1-1) and Killian Kearns the scorers. Amazingly Davitts were held scoreless for the remainder of the half as the Gaels took over. The visitors led by 1-8 to 1-2 at halftime.

Davitts upped their game after the interval and Dylan Gormally goaled again in the 32nd minute. Aaron O Dea pointed and Aaron Conneely Basham shot two points but Mayo Gaels goaled twice and also added two points to lead by 3-10 to 2-5 at the second water break. Aaron Conneely Basham, now finding his best form, fired home a brilliant goal in the 45th minute but Gaels replied with two points and looked like they were heading for a comfortable victory but Davitts had other ideas. Aaron Conneely Basham pointed in the 56th and 57th minutes before Dylan Gormally expertly converted a 58th minute penalty to narrow the gap to four points. Injury time points from Aaron Conneely Basham and Noah O Brien closed the deficit to two points but the final whistle went as Mayo Gaels desperately hung on for the win.

Davitts had great performances from Ronan Hett, Adam Rattigan, Sean Clarke, Tadhg Feerick, Aaron Conneely Basham, Noah O Brien, Aaron O Dea and Dylan Gormally.
