South Junior C’ship v Ballinrobe match report
Davitts junior team recorded their second win in the South Championship when they defeated Ballinrobe by 2-12 to 3-4 after an entertaining match played in sunny Ballindine on Wednesday evening.
Davitts midfielder Liam Macken, who had a brilliant game, opened the scoring in the third minute with a superb individual goal. Ballinrobe replied with a similar score a minute later. Shane Treacy pointed in the 7th minute but a second Ballinrobe goal in the 9th minute put the visitors ahead. They added a point to extend the lead before three Shane Treacy scores in the 12th, 19th and 23rd minutes levelled the game. There was only one more score in the first half, a third Ballinrobe goal, to see them lead by 3-1 to 1-4 at halftime.
A youthful Davitts side, full of running, took control of the game after the break with Shane Mitchell, Liam Macken and Jamie Mullee winning a lot of ball in the midfield sector. The third quarter saw Davitts shooting six points with Shane Treacy getting four and Ryan McLoughlin scoring two with Ballinrobe just managing one point. Ryan McLoughlin converted a 53rd minute penalty with aplomb after the hard working Danny Corless was taken down. Ballinrobe threw everything they had at the homeside but Davitts young defence, well marshalled by Padraig Mangan, and by this stage containing five players from last year’s minor team, were not going to be easily breached. Ballinrobe did get two points but these scores were cancelled out by two from the accurate Shane Treacy who along with Ryan McLoughlin, terrorised the Ballinrobe defence all evening.
