Seniors v Monivea Abbeyknockmoy – Match Report

Davitts defeated Monivea Abbeyknockmoy in the Leo Kenny Cup quarter-final in Ballindine on Friday evening. A superb point from Shane Treacy after a sweeping move in the dying seconds earned Davitts a 0-11 to 0-10 victory and a semi-final clash against Knockmore.

Monivea looked the better team early on and they led by 0-3 to 0-2 after the first quarter while playing against the wind. Davitts began to find their range and after some poor misses they shot the last five points of the half to lead by four points at the break. Josh Ronayne (3), Ronan McNamara (2), Dmitry Trench and Evan were Davitts first half marksmen.

Davitts nearly got the second half off to the perfect start when Stephen Nyland’s long high ball was superbly fetched by Ronan McNamara but he was denied a goal by an excellent save by the Monivea Abbey keeper. The visitors began to press hard and they narrowed the deficit but points from Liam Kearns (2) and Josh Ronayne kept Davitts ahead until Monivea Abbey got an equaslising point well into stoppage time. Davitts had time for one more attack and a move started by Patrick Keadin, involving Cathal Higgins, Padraig Mangan, Brian Clarke, Tommy Clarke and Liam Kearns, was finished in style by Shane Treacy with the last kick of a very exciting match.

Outstanding for Davitts were Cathal Higgins, Ciaran Fahy, Dmitry Trench, Stephen Nyland, William Freeley, Liam Kearns and Keith Prendergast.
