Seniors v Kilmeena – Match Report

Davitts and Kilmeena played out a very exciting Senior League Div 3 match in sunny Ballindine on Saturday evening with the homeside shading it by 0-18 to 1-14.

Evan Ronane opened the scoring with a point from the throw in but the visitors cancelled that out two minutes later. Keith Prendergast restored Davitts lead in the fourth minute but a Kilmeena goal in the fifth minute rattled the homeside and the visitors added two points to lead by four after ten minutes.

Two well taken Keith Prendergast points were matched by Kilmeena before Davitts began to gain control, with midfielder Ronan McNamara in flying form. A string of points from Evan Ronane (3) and Josh Ronayne (2) put Davitts ahead as the game entered first half stoppage time. Kilmeena pointed and Evan Ronane replied to leave Davitts ahead by 0-10 to 1-6 at the break.

Kilmeena began the second half brightly and shot three points in the opening five minutes. Davitts then came storming back and points from Michael Conroy (2), Josh Ronayne (2), Evan Ronane (2) Jack Ronayne and Ronan McNamara put Davitts five points clear with eight minutes remaining. Indeed but for some wayward shooting, this margin would have been greater. The gallant Kilmeena side refused to lie down and they shot the last four points before referee Michael Daly blew the full time whistle.

Davitts best performers in this game were Patrick Keadin, Cathal Higgins, Tommy Waldron, Dmitry Trench, Ronan McNamara, Keith Prendergast, Colm Boyle and Evan Ronane.
