Seniors v Kilmaine – Match Report
Kilmaine 1-10 Davitts 0-7
Kilmaine maintained their 100% winning record with a fine six point victory over Davitts in Division 1A of the Senior League in Kilmaine on Sunday.
Andrew Casey opened the scoring in the 14th minute and Brian Maloney got the homeside’s second point a minute later. Johnno Clarke opened Davitts account in the 16th minute but Dara Doherty restored Kilmaine’s two point advantage with a neat point two minutes later. Davitts then hit a purple patch with points from the inspirational Colm Boyle and Josh Ronayne (3). Andrew Casey pointed with the last kick of the first half to leave Davitts ahead by 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval.
Andrew Casey and Dara Doherty scored points in the opening minutes of the second half but Josh Ronayne equalised in the sixth minute and the same player put Davitts ahead in the 13th minute. Noel Higgins fired over a beauty a minute later to level the game. In the 15th minute referee Declan Corcoran, who didn’t endear himself to both sets of supporters, issued a straight red card to Kilmaine’s Jarlath McDonagh but a minute later Kilmaine got the game’s crucial score. An attempted short free for Davitts was intercepted by the alert Brian Maloney who passed to the inrushing Andrew Casey who palmed the ball into the empty net. Kilmaine finished the game strongly and points from Doherty (2) and Andrew Casey killed off the Davitts challenge.
Best for Kilmaine were John McDonagh, Derek and Gearoid O’Dea, Thomas Fahy, Andrew Casey, Brian Maloney and Dara Doherty.
Davitts hardest triers were Donal Ronayne, Colm Roche, Cathal Hennelly and Colm Boyle who was magnificent throughout the game.
