Seniors v Hollymount Carramore – O’Mara Cup Final – Match Report
Hollymount Carramore 2-13 Davitts 1-10
Hollymount Carramore captured the O Mara Cup on Friday evening with a comfortable six point victory over a very under strength Davitts side.
The difficult wet and windy conditions weren’t suitable to good football and Hollymount Carramore cruised through the first half and led by 0-7 to 0-1 at halftime, having the assistance of the wind. Points from Darren Coen (2), Dermot Costello, Kevin Feerick (2), Damien Kelly and Conor Keane for HollyCarra had them seven points up and a point from Shane Treacy just before halftime was Davitts only first half score.
Hollycarra really wrapped the game up in the third quarter. Conor Keane pointed in the first and 5th minutes and Kevin Feerick in the 7th and 13th minutes, while Clifford Connolly’s 14th minute goal had them leading by 1-11 to 0-1 and a hugely embarrassing result for Davitts looked on the cards. The young and inexperienced Davitts lads did show a lot of bottle however with points from Evan Ronayne, Andy Peters and Liam Kearns in the next three minutes. Darren Coen extended the HollyCarra lead in the 18th minute but an Evan Ronayne point and a fine goal from Mattie Trench in the 20th and 21st minute gave Davitts some hope.
HollyCarra sub Clifford Connolly dashed these hopes one minute later with his second goal. Davitts finished the game well and points from Liam Kearns (3), William Freeley and Brian Clarke put a respectable look on the scoreline, as they played some great football, with Darren Coen replying for the winners.
Best for Hollymount Carramore were Darren McHugh, Robert Molloy, Keelan McNamara, Kevin Costello, Conor Keane, Dermot Costello, Darren Coen and Clifford Connolly.
Davitts best players were Cathal Higgins, Brian and Johnno Clarke, Colm Roche, Liam Kearns and Andy Peters.
