Seniors v Claremorris – Match Report
Davitts hosted Claremorris in the O Mara Cup on Sunday with Claremorris edging a hard fought encounter, in front of a large attendance, by 0-11 to 0-9. The result sees Claremorris into the Final but Davitts can be pleased with their hardworking and committed display, playing with fourteen men, after wing forward Tommy Waldron was sent off for a second yellow card offence just before halftime.
Davitts got off to a flier and had raced into a four point lead after six minutes with scores from Cathal Hennelly (2), Evan Ronane and Ronan McNamara. Claremorris settled down and began to dominate proceedings and they reeled off six unanswered points before Josh Ronayne steadied the home side with a 27th minute point. Claremorris shot the final score of the half to lead by 0-7 to 0-5 at the break.
Evan Ronane fired over a beauty two minutes into the second half for the homeside but this was cancelled out ten minutes later. Both sides were finding it very hard to manafacture scoring chances in the wet conditions and on 17 minutes Ronan McNamara pointed a fine effort to close the gap to a single point. The same player levelled the match with a long range free in the 22nd minute as Claremorris realised that they would have to pull out all the stops to advance to the Final. Claremorris regained the lead with a superb long range effort in the 24th minute. Davitts showed their bottle and after some heroic defending they counter attacked and Evan Ronane shot over the equaliser in the 29th minute.
Claremorris, to their credit, rallied and two injury time points saw them across the line.
