Seniors v Claremorris – Match Report
Claremorris defeated an under-strength Davitts side by five points, 1-10 to 0-8, in the first round of the O Mara Cup, played in Ballindine on Saturday evening. Claremorris were the stronger side over the hour but there were encouraging displays from James Cummins, Cathal Higgins, Johnno Clarke, Thomas Waldron, Josh Ronayne and Cathal Hennelly for the homeside. Davitts trailed by 0-7 to 0-5 at the break with Josh Ronayne (4) and Micheal Mangan shooting the points.
A Claremorris goal ten minutes into the second half proved to be a killer blow although Davitts had a few great chances to goal themselves. The Claremorris goalkeeper pulled off a few stunning saves and Andrew Peters shot narrowly wide from the penalty spot after an infringement in the small square. Josh Ronayne (2) and Liam Kearns were the second half scorers for Davitts. Next up is Breaffy in the Championship next Sunday and the Davitts management will be hoping that some of the injuries will have cleared up by then.
