Seniors v Claremorris – Match Report

Davitts hosted Claremorris in the O Mara Cup on Sunday and defeated them by 4-12 to 2-12 after a lively encounter. The game was evenly balanced until the sending off of Davitts goalie Adrian McNamara in the 24th minute, with his side trailing by a point. Being down to fourteen players seemed to galvanize the home side and they scored a goal, finished emphatically by Liam Kearns, in the next minute followed by a fine Josh Ronayne point, and ended up ahead by 1-6 to 0-7 at the break having played against the wind in the first half.

Davitts dominated the second period and never really looked like losing. They added three goals courtesy of Liam Kearns, Michael Waldron and Ronan McNamara, with the latter causing much anxiety for the visitors defence throughout. Claremorris battled away right up to the final whistle and two late goals put a more respectable look to the scoreboard for them.

The Davitts defence played well, until the final few minutes, with Cathal Higgins, Kevin Gallagher and Michael Waldron in top form. The talented Cathal Hennelly won an amount of possession at midfield while up front, Thomas Waldron, Josh Ronayne and Evan Ronayne, who shot three excellent points, were very lively with Ronan McNamara and Liam Kearns impressing.
