Seniors v Breaffy – Match Report

Breaffy: 1-8

Davitts: 1-8

Breaffy and Davitts, two of the in form teams in the Senior League Div 1A, served up an entertaining game in difficult conditions in Breaffy on Sunday, and while both camps will argue that they should have won, a draw was probably a fair result in the end.

Breaffy had led by four points at halftime, 1-4 to 0-3, the goal was a very fortunate one ten minutes before the break. Two Michael Conroy points and another from corner back Colm Roche accounted for Davitts first half tally.

Davitts were struggling to win primary possession at midfield minus the services of Ronan McNamara, but the impressive workrate of Paul Carey, Keith Prendergast, James Cummins, Alan Roche and Carlos O Gara was keeping their side in touch. It was tit for tat going into the closing stages and with the homeside leading by four points with the game heading into stoppage time, Davitts produced a grand stand finish. Conroy (on top of his game) and Carey combined for the latter to point before the inspirational Colm Boyle got on the end of a superb move to blast past a helpless Rob Hennelly in the Breaffy goals. This goal would certainly be a goal of the season contender with James Cummins, Paul Carey, Alan Roche, Michael Conroy, Aidan McTigue, Liam Kearns and David McDonagh all involved in the move.

The referee Ronan Gurren, who had a good game, blew the final whistle seconds later.

Colm Roche and Kevin Gallagher were superb in this game as well as those mentioned earlier, while young Thomas Waldron, minor again next year, made his senior debut and acquitted himself well.

Davitts team: Mark Diskin, Colm Roche (0-1), Tommy Nolan, Kevin Gallagher, Colm Boyle (1-0), Alan Roche, James Cummins, Keith Prendergast (0-1), Paul Carey (0-1), Liam Kearns, Fearghal McGrath, Carlos O Gara, Aidan McTigue, David McDonagh, Michael Conroy (0-5). Sub used: Thomas Waldron.
