Seniors v Breaffy – Match Report
Davitts 1-9 Breaffy 1-10
Davitts and Breaffy met in this Senior Championship match in sunny Ballindine on Sunday, with the away side coming out on top after a hard fought game. A ten minute spell after half time proved crucial for the away side as they rattled off four unanswered points after the teams went in level at halftime.
Davitts showed tremendous bottle in the second half and were rewarded with the awarding of a penalty kick after Colm Boyle, arguably the game’s outstanding performer, was fouled for a penalty. Josh Ronayne’s kick was saved by Rob Hennelly but Josh followed up to despatch the rebound and put the outcome in the melting pot with five minutes remaining.
Breaffy were hanging on at this stage and in a final salvo, with Davitts trailing by two points, Hennelly pulled off a fantastic save from Ronan McNamara and Andrew Peters follow-through deflected off a teammate and went over the crossbar.
Breaffy, with Aidan O Shea winning a lot of frees that were questionable, possibly deserved the win but Davitts can be encouraged by a brave performance.
Every Davitts player did well in this game but Kevin Gallagher, Johnno Clarke, Tommy Nolan, Colm Boyle, Ronan McNamara, Thomas Waldron, Liam Kearns and Cathal Hennelly were fantastic and we can look forward to the coming games with confidence.
