Seniors v Breaffy–Div 1A – Match Report

Breaffy 2-14 ¦ Davitts 1-14

This Senior League Div 1A tie was played on Wednesday evening in Breaffy and it turned out to be a cracking match with a late James Minogue goal giving the home side the two league points.

Gareth Dunne for Breaffy and Josh Ronayne for Davitts both pointed in the first minute. Liam Irwin fired over two points in the 2nd and 3rd minutes for the home side with Josh Ronayne pointing for Davitts a minute later. A Tommy O Reilly point in the 10th minute was followed by a Gareth Dunne goal a minute later to put Breaffy five points ahead.

Davitts then hit a purple patch scoring points via Evan Ronane, Josh Ronayne, Aidan McTigue, Thomas Waldron (2), Ronan McNamara to put Davitts ahead before Aidan McTigue opened up a four point lead for the visitors with a well taken 24th minute goal.

This stung Breaffy into action again and points by Gerry Jennings, Michael Hall and James Minogue in the next three minutes narrowed the gap to a point before Evan Ronane pointed neatly to leave Davitts ahead by 1-9 to 1-7 at halftime.

Liam Irwin shot four classy points in the first ten minutes of the second half of this see-sawing game before Cathal Hennelly and Evan Ronane tied the game again with points in the 11th and 14th minutes. Evan Ronane put Davitts into the lead again two minutes later before Breaffy midfielder Gary Walsh equalised in the 16th minute.

Breaffy took the lead with points from James Minogue and Liam Irwin as the game entered the final ten minutes of play.

Davitts fought back and Ronan McNamara and Evan Ronane pointed as the sides drew level again with three minutes normal time remaining. Both sides would probably have settled for a draw at this stage but it was Breaffy that hit the winning score, a goal from attacking wing back James Minogue, to kill off the Davitts challenge.

This was a very good game of open attacking football which referee Ronan Gurren handled very well.

Thomas Waldron, Declan Healy, Cathal Hennelly, Ronan McNamara, Josh Ronayne, Michael Conroy, Aidan McTigue and Evan Ronane impressed for Davitts.
