Seniors v Ballinrobe – Match Report
Davitts 2-13 Ballinrobe 2-5
Davitts maintained their place at the top of the Senior League Division 1B table after a well deserved eight point victory over Ballinrobe on Sunday. The Davitts lads displayed no after effects from the Barn Dance in their new Clubhouse the previous night as they played confidently throughout the game.
Ballinrobe opened the scoring with a fourth minute point but a string of Davitts points from Keith Prendergast (2), Paul Carey, Ronan McNamara (2) and Liam Kearns (2), with Ballinrobe only notching one in reply, had Davitts ahead by five points before Ballinrobe received a lifeline. A long range attempt at a point deceived Davitts keeper Adrian McNamara and ended up in the net as the first half went into injury time to leave Davitts ahead by 0-7 to 1-2 at the break.
Early second half points from Ronan McNamara and Liam Kearns (3) and a cracking McNamara goal put Davitts firmly in control. Ballinrobe kept plugging away and scored a few stylish points before a rare lapse in concentration among the Davitts defenders allowed the homeside through for a goal. Davitts responded well and points from Liam Kearns and Micheal Mangan and a Shane Treacy goal sealed a comfortable win.
In a good team performance, all six defenders excelled with Colm Roche, Kevin Gallagher, Padraig Mangan and James Cummins outstanding. Declan Healy and William Freeley dominated around midfield while Andrew Peters, Liam Kearns and Ronan McNamara were in great form up front.
