Seniors v Ballina – Match Report
Davitts 0-6 | Ballina 0-13
Ballina had a surprisingly easy victory over Davitts in Ballindine on Sunday in Div 1 of the Senior League after a bad tempered affair. While both sets of players and supporters were annoyed by many of referee John Glavey’s decisions, the indiscipline by players from the two sides must be worrying for the management of both teams.
It was very hard to keep up with the amount of cards flashed during this stop start game but Ballina had Thomas Doherty and David O Mahoney blackcarded while Davitts players Donal Ronayne, Cathal Higgins and Padraig Mangan were blackcarded and Paul Carey sent off for a second yellow card offence.
Wind assisted Ballina led by 0-5 to 0-2 at the break with points from the impressive Alex Corduff, Aidan Tighe, Sean McGarry, Brendan O Hora and Brendan Murray. Ronan McNamara got both of Davitts first half scores.
Ballina extended their lead with two early Brendan Murray points and another two from Alex Corduff and Brendan O Hara with Davitts captain Colm Roche, Liam Kearns and Paul Carey replying for the homeside. Tempers were fraying all around the field and very little good football was being played. Ronan McNamara pointed in the 18th minute but this was Davitts final score with Alex Corduff (2) and Brendan Murray pointing before the final whistle.
The poor quality of the football will not worry Ballina and they had good performances from Martin Wynne, Andrew Stutt, Padraig O Hora, Alex Corduff, Aidan Tighe, Brendan Murray and Paul McGarry.
Best for a disappointing Davitts team were Colm Roche, Padraig Mangan, Keith Prendergast, Ronan McNamara, Paul Carey and Fearghal McGrath.
